Here's a Second Life Herald article on it: http://foo.secondlifeherald.com/slh/2008/02/second-inventor.html
and here's a link to the maker's ad: http://uncensored.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=541881 I read a report by one builder to the effect that it was working quite well to give him security by building under an alts name, then recreating them under his usual avatar name. _____________________

I suppose the real question who is it good for? Content creators? The program is said to be able to store content on your hard drive, and then it will allow or deny the ability to manipulate that data according to SL permissions. But with the content already on your hard drive, it is a short trick for some programmer to change those permissions. While the desire to protect content is strong, the implications for theft are worrisome.

I agree with Kenbro. It probably won't take much hacking to make it into a tool for theft.

Unfortunately if people want to be able to backup their inventory locally, there's no foolproof way to do it without allowing copying
Otherwise LL will need to have a backup inventory server we could click a backup button at our leisure or make it periodically _____________________

wanna know what's funny? I've NEVER lost inventoy.... EVER. That's not a brag, but from what I understand it's less likely to lose inventory from the default SL folders and their sub folders... most inventory loss seems to occur in top level user created folders like those you get from vendors... having a smaller inventory seems to help too

I know the creator has added a copyright protection system but I hope they never let it slip how they worked out to copy protected scripts I didnt think copybot could even do that and if somone recreated this without the protection system it could be the beggining of the end.
Also Some creators make things no copy for a reason like me If I made my beds copy landlords could buy one instead of haveing to strike a deal with me for a bulk purchase .This allows them to get over that and furnish there entire empire using just one of my beds and copying it.This needs to be stoped straight away . _____________________

You can't download protected scripts--unlike permissions, it's not just principle... you just can't.
I had the opportunity to try Second Inventory and it far surpassed my expectations in terms of functionality. I'd say it's alot more feature-rich than SLeek, though it doesn't do IM's or chat, those sorts of things. Backing up all your creations goes smoothly. Importing them back seems to be a feature-in-progress--that is, it says something along the lines of "we're working with you, this will be available soon" _____________________

It's not a matter of if; it is a matter of when. It will eventually happen to most folks. Bitrot is a reality on the 'Net. I've lost stuff from the Linden folders, as well as when my inventory was much smaller, too, so those anecdotes do not hold true for me, unfortunately. ![]() |

And, why is it when you do lose something from your inventory, it's always that little something that cost a fortune? ![]() |
