or am I just noticing it more ? A weird problem I'm having is, on one of my sims, the sim fps shows up as ZERO, despite a reboot. Weird.

Things got better there for a while, but they're going downhill again, IMO.
-the head-up-the-arse bug is back (I've seen it). -TPs have become very iffy again -I'm getting that "Clothing is downloading. Others can see you normally" message again. -Part of my Library has vanished. -I'm seeing more lag, more sims going down, and more sudden viewer crashes lately. No single reproducible thing I can point to. Just an overall impression of less stable performance. |

Agreed. All the stuff that was annoying and kept your overall experience low is back, after summer hiatus.

Every time I log in, it is slow or crashes. Search won't work, TP won't work...... I haven't even been inworld in two days it's so frustrating.

Are there any over-512m megaprims on the sim or ones within viewing distance? Have you used the region tools to track down physics collisions or griefer scripts? (Look for objects named 'Philip Linden' 'Prokofy Neva', etc.) Look in your statistics bar and expand the Time box at the bottom. If you see a lot of 3-and-4-digit numbers in the Images Time and Net Time stats, you're suffering what I've been suffering for the past 2 months, and I haven't found a solution. _____________________

Are there any over-512m megaprims on the sim or ones within viewing distance?. Wildefire, I've been reading the thread about the megaprim FAQ, and haven't seen anyone there willing to say that this is definitely a problem, at the moment. Do you know it to be? I ask because the class 5 sim I live in has weird performance downspikes, as well as short storms of packet loss. The whole set of sims it belongs to are each topped by a single megaprim at 700m. Been wondering if that's the cause. |

Been wondering if that's the cause. I suspect the cause is something more basic than that. In all of the sims that I spend most of my time in (several different mainland and one or two islands), I have observed a constant problem with spikes of low time dilation. These started after the rolling restart near the end of July and have been getting steadily worse since then. This last weekend my home sim spent more time below 0.2 time dilation that it did above it. I am pretty sure that some change they made back then is the root cause of the spikes I have been seeing. I know that voice is not supposed to have any affect on the sims, and from what I have seen of the implementation I am pretty sure that is correct, but something that was rolled in back then is not working correctly. |

I ask because the class 5 sim I live in has weird performance downspikes, as well as short storms of packet loss. The whole set of sims it belongs to are each topped by a single megaprim at 700m. Been wondering if that's the cause. Well all I have to go off of is Zero Linden's explanation in that transcript linked in the fact. What I've been seeing are HUGE spikes in Net Time and Images Time, and it's not all due to the sims I'm sharing a server with. Now, if you're standing on an island and you can see prims and people on other islands, that's possible because those other sims are sending your local sim the necessary information. The problem with >512m megaprims, Zero says, is that the current back-end code cannot efficiently transmit the data required to render those giant prims across sims. Really it was only written with 10m-max prims in mind so even <512m prims may well add bandwidth but it supposedly gets REALLY ugly with the giant ones. I know my sim's not unique. I was in a very popular (but not overcrowded- only 9 avatars in at the time) shopping sim yesterday and they were at 0-5 FPS the whole time. It's a new problem and we're essentially helpless to do anything about it. _____________________

No to all of the above. I turned in a ticket to Support, so hopefully they can find out what's wrong. _____________________

If you see a lot of 3-and-4-digit numbers in the Images Time and Net Time stats, you're suffering what I've been suffering for the past 2 months, and I haven't found a solution. My class 4 mainland home has been plagued with this for a long time. I think there's a memory leak or a texture cache problem in the sim code that causes it to get very expensive to send textures after a while. Sometimes when it gets like this, I can talk a Linden into restarting it. Sometimes it comes back happy, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, further pestering of the Linden seems to get it one more reboot where it comes back happy. Happy is, of course, temporary. The symptom is pretty easy to spot: any new person who comes in that doesn't have the sim in their texture cache causes us to hover near 0 sim fps for 5-10 minutes. Longer if more than one shows up. It's really painful when people tell me they gave it 2-3 minutes then relogged with a cache clear because it was laggy.. ![]() |

It's very bad for me lately. But like many others in SL, I'm suffering from boiling frog syndrome. At this rate, the day will come when nobody can log in at all and yet nobody will bother to complain.

Yes, I remember hearing that when I joined. The grid is due to explode as soon as we hit 8k online at once.

I have found that the client is much more stable, at least since the 1.15 series. This is one avatar's opinion.

I found an object on that sim that was causing a lot of collisions. I removed it and voila, the sim is back to normal. Yay.

I'm running the current release candidate, and made it entirely through the time I was on (4 or 5 hrs.. ) without crashing.

I found an object on that sim that was causing a lot of collisions. I removed it and voila, the sim is back to normal. Yay. Yep, one of my islands was lagging inexplicably for a while, and a friend of mine discovered one of my tenants had a stack of 50 physics-enabled gold coins on his property. Oddly the physics collisions detector never registered anything (otherwise I'd have spotted it), but once the last coin was gone performance went back to normal. _____________________
