I got a folder full of Afro stuff, and tried on the hair. It looks like paint, and now I cant get it off. The icon for it looks like the little dark red arch I see a lot which is sometimes called a 'base'. I've tried my pie menu and it isn't even listed. The Edit tool in the toolbar at the top of my screen doesn't have anything, and when I rt click on it, it has no option to remove it, take off, or detach. So my query is, how can i get it off my avatar?

Try putting another bald base on. That should do it. Just put it on over your old one and it will replace it. Hopefully.

Yeah, you cannot just take off a hair base -- like shape, skin, and eyes, it must be replaced instead because you cannot totally be without one.
So just replace it with another one in your inventory or create a new one yourself via Edit Appearance.
