the last week i noticed groups going down one by one , and by going down i mean not able to open the groupchat no more , getting the error messages that its not possible or when a groupchat opens it closes right away with the message the session no longer excist

now i understand this weekend there was something more pressing to work on for the lindens as in our estates where down but i just have to say this is really testing my patience.

first it was only one group then two and more and now i dont even know wich group will work , groups that worked normally yesterday dont do that no more today

and also today i cant even invite no more new renters into my rentgroup, how can i have renters on my sim then uggggh

for the ones in sl a longer time as i am we have groups for support on several things in sl we do , like building scripting landowning to name a few , and we help out eachother a lot now i am cut off this since my support groups now longer work including the concierge group

do i feel the need to open a jira for it , well i think not i seen jiras about grouperrors for longer then a year now , voted for them to , but i not seen a fix on groups , the chatlag for example is going on longer then a year now.

ive created groups myself that now longer work, not that i feel the 100 lindens are a real cut on my account lol but its the principle of it to , if i buy something in rl that dont work i go back to the store and it will be fix. now i buy this groups i made and they broken so will they be fixed?

i dont think posting it in the forums will help as much as voting on jiras or sending in tickets but at least ive wrote it down to decrease my feeling of irritation i am having now

It's ironic (and indicative of how screwed up things are now) that, every time somebody sends a group IM in the Second Life Mentors group for the last several days, it immediately closes the IM window and sends me an error message that the group is unavailable. And last night I tried to send an event promo to the SecondNighters group (which exists solely to promote events) and I gave up after about 30 tries because the group IM was unavailable.

There is a blog post that indicates that they became aware of the problem 2 months ago (I guess they missed the older jiras), and that they have fixes ready to go, but won't be able to implement them for "a few weeks" because they are busy doing other things.

https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/technology/blog/2009/06/15/improving-the-quality-of-group-chat

So we get to live with non-functioning group chat for the forseeable future.

Yes - I continue to get "cannot open group chat" or "group chat has ended" etc., messages whether or not I've even opened group chat.

It's mainly been since the new viewer came out. There are usually some texture/group chat problems and other small bugs around such times, but this is the worst I can recall, as far as group chat. The texture problems haven't been as bad as with past switchover times.

I never get a viewer til I must...

The Mentor Lounge annoys the hell out of me because not only do I immediately get the "can't initiate chat" message, but whatever I was typing in local chat gets overrided till I shut down the stupid message. It's particularly annoying because in Mentor Lounge, this can happen several times in a row, generally with stuff I get completely out of context anyway. It's like missing half a reel of the movie I was watching, and then being unable to eat the popcorn because everything stalls till I go yell at the projectionist.

Oh, there are lots of jiras on the group errors. They've been reported and ignored for well over two years now. Lindens have even commented on it, so the "we've become aware of it a couple of months ago" is just a flat-out lie.
*Perhaps* you could say that the managers allocating resources have only become aware of if recently, but I'm not really sure if that's any better.

My report of group IMs not being delivered to some people even though it's obvious once they pick up again that a discussion has been going on between others was even downgraded to "nice to have" by a Linden.
Seriously... being able to actually see the messages sent to the group you're a member of is officially a "nice to have" feature!

That's like AT&T saying they have more important things to do than maintain its telephone infrastructure. What could *possibly* be more important than addressing communications issues on what LL touts as an "advanced communications platform"?

Oh, wait.... Bumping adult content off the visible grid. Got it.

Shame on every last one of you. The Lindens are to be praised, because in the last couple of months they have become aware of a problem, and they actually have a plan to work out a plan to do something about it. It will only take them a couple of weeks to actually begin to plan to take some form of action.

Praise you all, Linden Lab employees! It only took you three years and an ever-increasing number of major issues with group chat to decide it might be a good idea to start planning to take action!

I am haveing the same problems. When we try and send out group IMs, we get the error message and it closes. When other groups send them, I get the error message and it closes before I can even see what they have to say.

How are we supposed to conduct business like this? How many businesses are suffering because of this? I'd venture to say many.

LL, pulease get to work on this and fix it.

Just about every business that depends on Events, like all the clubs.

Sure Notices are still usable. However, though I haven't tracked it statistically, it seems to be that there is a significantly higher response rate to Group IM announcing an Event than a Notice.

Couple that with the fact that my club's sim gets hit with a reset to 0 traffic every other day recently, and we have been feeling some hurt.

from Improving the Quality of Group Chat posted by Sardonyx Linden.....

"Because we have a crowded server release schedule coming up, it will be a few weeks before these changes are live on the grid. I wanted to get news of this work out in a timely way, though. Our redoubtable Jonathan Linden has done a great job in this area."

What, exactly, is it that Jonathan Linden did? Come up with the "crowded server release schedule" stall tactic? I assume Sardonyx meant the "worthy of respect or honor" definition of redoubtable......until this Chat problem is FIXed, not just band-aided, none of the Linden's are redoubtable, imho.

Somebody please explain to me why they're all concerned about getting "the news of this work out in a timely way" but have no such concerns when it comes to actually implementing the fix!

I'm using an older viewer (one I compiled myself, from 1.22 RC source), and I see this problem. The new viewer may be a factor, but using an old viewer does not avoid the problem.

I would expect chat functions and issues to be more a Server issue rather than a Viewer issue anyway, so this makes sense.
