Alternate Viewer Question related to Adult Content Changes

(Not sure if I'm even allowed to post this in these forums...? If not, can someone please PM me and tell me where I might find this information?)

The adult content changes are supposed to come with the 1.23 viewer. I know that this will essentially render most alternate viewers useless for those of us who WANT to access Adult Content. I currently use Kirsten's Viewer, which I understand Kirsten is no longer supporting/updating, but due to its stability, I had put off finding another alternate viewer (one continually being developed) because I didn't see the rush to do so. Now I do.

Does anyone have any recommendations about, say, the Top 5 alternate viewers? I understand that I'll need to download the 1.23 SL viewer (which will probably put a huge damper on my Second Life due to the instability issues I've encountered with the "official" viewers in the past), but I'd eventually like to find another alternate viewer with similar stability and features to Kirsten's viewer that will be easier on my computer than the "official" viewer.

Anybody?

For now there is no real concern about 1.23 coming up sometime later that year. LL targets 30 June for a Release Candidate I think.

If you look at 3rd party viewers you will find that some are actually based on a much older code base and incorporate a number of backports to make them still working securely and stable these days. Just look at Nicholaz Old School or Cool Viewer 1.19 (both pre-windlight and supporting older hardware the official client doesn't).

There will not be really any change in this and you can safely trust that there will be good working 3rd party viewers available in the future. I recommend you to have a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Alternate_viewers thats lists the only ones I would personally touch. One can do too many bad things with a viewer and a listing on the official Wiki should give you some level of security.

I'm curious if it can be backported to legacy viewers. I'm using The 1.19 cool viewer, so I may wind up coded out of Pornsylvania anyway.

For the same stability and lack of lag issues, I am on a Kirsten as well. The CoolViewer while highly recommended to me, is not from what i understand "plug and play"? Instead requires one to make changes here and there, while the Kirsten was DL and go - will my experience change if I do not DL a newer version in regards to Adult Content?

Much sooner. Possibly yet this week or next for 1.23 RC0. I would think June 30 might be their target for 1.23 to be the standard viewer, so they can get on with the Adult Content pogr^H^H^H^Hprogram.

No, thats not true. CV has a very much similar installer like the official SL client. The only difference to KLee is it doesn't include non-redistributable libraries that we are still trying to find an official answer from LL about it's legality.

If in doubt just try it, it will install itself in an independent directory and does not interfere with any other viewer:

Yes, I read the date but was not sure if that is RC or the final one. Thanks. Makes it even more scary in terms of the PG filtering issue.

Where is that coming from? I found CV as easy to install as Nicholaz, which is simple.

There is a difference between 1.22 which now uses a SL alike independent installer and 1.19 which is as simple as it gets by copying it over an existing SL installation.

I will keep it that way as it is hell a lot of work to get that installer thingy working properly. I understand people like things as they know them, they should use 1.22. Someone with an older machine and still happy using it is able to read readme's and does not nag about some handish work :)

Kirsten recently released a new viewer (with Shadows! though my PC did not like them) so I think she is back in business. Even with shadows off it is a great viewer.

Blondin just answered my question on legacy viewers. After 60 days from Go, old viewers will not be able to access Adult Search, but you will be able to access adult areas provided you meet the verified criteria. I really couldn't care less about search, I hardly use it anyway, so no need to lose my 1.19. Yay!!!

@Ayesha

Just be careful with this new build. Somehow KLee missed to put a big red warning on that one that says this is instable test code that will crash and should not be used in any production environment.

It's nice to have shadows for some cool screenshots or videos, but please don't use such a test viewer as regular client. It will crash and you will lose work and perhaps money when you don't expect it.

My main reason for not using the Cool Viewer is because i could never get it to work.. It always crashed on startup.

I will try the new installer link: http://coolviewer.googlecode.com/files/Cool_Viewer_1-22-11-0_R7_Setup.exe

Blondie is a guy from the marketing department with obviously no clue what he writes about. So feel save to ignore his comments :)
