...anybody know if trains still run? Tracks and easements are still in place, but I haven't seen a train in some time, and I used to get a kick out jumping on one every once in a while. I love trains.

I'm wondering this myself!
Going to talk to Barney Boomslang and some others who are currently hard at work on the next revision of Caledon National Rail for 2008 - perhaps they might consider bringing the rail technology to the rest of the grid. It's been running for well more than a year (as of this bleeding instant the main line is temporarily down, but the spur lines are running). We're at ten regions with active track now, soon to be sixteen regions in a month or so, and ultimately at least twenty. I know that Ordinal also has a lot of good scripting material out there right also, including a scripting forum - enough that some talented enthused people could make it happen themselves if they dug around a bit, I'll wager. Ordinal did the scripts for the rather famous (or infamous, if it ran you down!) Caledon Trolley. If anyone wanted to take the bull by the horns, we'd have a mainland railway in short order... _____________________

It's running!? YAY!
Anyone know where to find a schedule, or perhaps there's one on the web? I seem to recall Nigel talking about something that indicated where the trains were... _____________________

Desmond, the Caledon travel system is one of my very favorite things to do in SL. Definitely the best train in SL!

Aw, thanks! If you see someone from Caledon thank them, it's their $L that keeps it running.
I know that the sims of New Babbage, Lummerland and some others also have trains or are about to; also Jillian Callahan, Mary Edison and Memir Quinn (in no particular order!) have some amazing train technology too - I'm sure there are many others I'm forgetting. Ah, and who can forget the tram in Nakama! One of the most amazing 'dark tunnels' in SL. And the Calleta Hobos - I'm not sure if the trains are 'running' there, but, well, that's sort of beside the point... ...you'll have to forgive me, I could go on all day - but I'll just say this: in some ways the grid is far, far, far more interesting than it ever was, and getting better daily. The railway systems on the grid are one of those 'better than ever' things and the future looks bright. _____________________

if you like riding trains, check out the elevated one in movix, had to redo the tracks a little, so right now the train is not running until I get back in and fix it
but check it out tomorrow or sometime, fun to ride, and fun to see the city while riding hehe _____________________

My favorite is the mini train in the Wish sim, it loops through the pyramid malls, arond the whole sim, under the pyramids, up raised sections above the sim and even under the ocean. There are a couple of places it falters but the system auto corrects most of the time, though occasionally will reset to the start point. The full ride takes over 30minutes and is great fun.
Also for train lovers there is a non running static steam train in Steamboat sim, it is around 4,000 prims and wonderfully detailed. |

Mustn't edit the train while said train is in motion. That will usually break it.

Goodie! another train thread!
There's a short circuit <cough> at the Alpine Resort on Meeting Support *and* a ski lift!!. Last time I went, I was shown by an officer how to fit skis. Sadly he didn't hang around to teach me how to ski well ![]() And we must never forget the 'Little Trains of Wales'! I noticed tracks still at Taff's Bar, Cymru but didn't investigate their current status. _____________________

Kitto Flora sells a miniature 'sit and ride' railway with sectional track that you can put together in any configuration you wish.

I posted a JIRA issue regarding the constantly disappearing SLRR trains, please vote on it to show your support and hopefully get a Linden to take a look at the state of the railway. I used to love riding on it but only limited sections of track ever have a train on them:

Damn, I want my own railway now! That'll teach me to leave my sims non-joined up. Pah! Anybody selling a very, very cheap set of voids?

Calling sim crossings "pathetic" in the bug description probably doesn't encourage them to help, though. No need to be insulting. _____________________

Whoops, you're completely right, I hadn't been having a very good time with region crossings when I wrote that. Still don't, but yeah, especially bad that day =) _____________________

I rode the train it's entire length on the Sansara continent, took the ferry past the oil (prim) rig to the Heterocera continent but the train never showed up there and I was being very patient for a change. Anyone know if it was just having a bad day that day? Does it continue on?
