A Question for Experienced Land Buyers

As someone who's bought very little land (only the one transaction), I'd like to learn how you wheelers and dealers find land for sale.

I mean, there are so many places to look...two sorts of Classifieds over on SLX, the Classifieds here on the SL site, the Land Auctions here (and why do they only ever have only ten or fifteen properties up for auction? LL owns thousands of parcels!).

Then there are the websites maintained by the big land barons.

And the inworld Map with its yellow "for sale" markers...that only work on the mainland.

All of these sources are cumbersome to use, to one degree or another. It seems that if I'm seriously looking for land, that is ALL I'm going to have time for. So...how do you do it, if you're just wanting to keep a casual eye out for a bargain?

A bit of a "bottom-fisher", I use the in-world Search / Land Sales tool, which is pathetic, but less pathetic than the other options, at least for my purposes. (Didn't see that mentioned in the post, but perhaps it's just dismissed out-of-hand by most folks.)

You can sort the land list by price and continually click hoping some cheap land comes up, but you will most likely be beaten to a purchase by a more experienced buyer when it comes up. There are no true bargains on the bottom of the list since landbots started throttling it. Plus most of the cheap land on the first page is not very desirable.

Your best bet is to find the plot you love and contact the owner and see if there is room for them to lower the price. The fact that you are an end user will help you since people like to give them breaks more than barons.

Also remember, there is not a ton of savings to be had from one purchase price to another. Most of the cost you will be incurring will be coming from monthly tier.

I found the land I bought for a (now defunct) group by putting on 'View Land Owners' and flying about a bit, in conjunction with the places listed in Land Sales.
