Hello,
A friend of mine wants to buy an island but wants to put near some others. Is there method/way for determining where in the giant Land Store map I need to go?
I guess I have two questions then:
i) how to determine the absolute co-ordinates of an existing island ii) how to find it on the map
The Grid map is so huge, I can't even find my two islands on it! X.X
Thanks for any help!

Hathead--I can only answer your second question. You can search the map for the island name and it will zero-in on that land. I can only suggest playing around in maps to find the actual map coordinates of private land. It mught be clickable or there might be an option on the side of the map.
You might be able to request placement by the name of the existing sim--say--i'd like to position my island along the western border of Hathead.
If you don't find the answers here, go in-world and check out Mission Beach and the surrounding islands. All those guys planned to place islands in close proximity to create a small continent and they are expanding all the time. If you are lucky to find an owner around (or IM one), they can tell you how to do it.

Thanks Teejay! I was able to find my locations by using my trusty old RL fingers as a measuring aid on the Land Store screen (in relation to one of LL continents) and was able to close in that way. Christopher Columbus would be proud.

Help / About Second Life when you're on the sim. You'll see the X and Y (in m) in global coordinates, so just divide each by 256 and round down to get the sim coordinates .

In the land store, if you click on an empty spot it will tell you the coords that you clicked on, sort of like "This is available (xxx, yyy)" so just start clicking and then adjust accordingly. That's how you can figure out where you are in the land store map.
Inworld, there are some script functions that will tell you the global position of a given sim, but the way Kitty mentioned works just fine. The position given in that screen is the absolute position in meters, it will be xxxx.xxx, yyyy.yyy, zzzz.zzz and you can ignore the numbers after the deciman and ignore the z and just divide the xxxx and yyyy by 256.
