Flesh colored things sticking out the bottoms of my pants

What on earth are these stupid things? I have pants on, and shoes with a shoe base, and it looks like these angled flesh colored pieces are sticking out the bottom of the legs of the pants. I've seen this off and on in the past, but yesterday and today now they are persistent.

It's a rendering glitch that appears sometimes when the avaatr textures are not fully rezzed. Sometimes doing a "rebake" of avatar textures will fix it.

I am always VERY wary of flesh-coloured things that stick out of pants. I strongly advise CAUTION!!

:D

Yes, I started this thread deliberately leaving the double entendres to my betters. :-)

Ceera, I just can't seem to get rid of it today and yesterday. I will try a complete rebake.

I find most pants bottoms look clumsy, with or without the thing sticking out (which may not always be visible to other people, btw)
The 'flare' part of the pants can't be made totally narrow, so it always looks at bit like people are wearing floods.
I almost always were pants that are designed with ankle prims which takes care of that flare problem. Of course, prims don't always match up very well, either :)

I found a tintable glove and sock set by Robin Sojourner over at Living Tree, I think. Wearing those will turn the inside of flared sleeves and pants from flesh colour to whatever you need.

Yes, 'cankles' are rather disgusting, and I don't wear flare pants for that reason. I wear tight ankle pants and wear boots over those, or else prim feet/shoes.

One thing that helps, at least for me, is to adjust the lenght of the pants a little if they are mod enabled.

Right click your avatar and edit apperance.
towards the bottom of the edit window is the button for pants. Hit that.
The top slider (I think) is length. Set that to 98.
Save, close and see how that looks.

pants on the underwear layer don't seam to have this problem, they have no flare at all.
they are hard to find but designers that also offer boots are more likely to have them

You can usually get rid of those flaps by changing your pant length from 100 to 98 or 99.

Rhonda, do you mean a length of 98 is better than 100? Because even though my avatar is not the tallest woman on the grid, for some reasons pants are never long enough and the length is always set at 100. Edit: I see that the answer is yes. TY!

Cankles! Now I know what they're called!

Brann I'm going to look for those!

TY everybody.

I get round the flares problem by wearing black socks. Then you lose the unrealistic flesh-coloured infill on the underside of the flares and it just looks like natural shadow.

If you want to wear flares with no socks, you could make black ankle bands in photoshop, upload them and apply them to the 'socks' layer. These should leave underside of the flares dark, while still showing bare feet.

In fact, I'll make some.

It'll work: that's exactly what Robin Sojourner's "Barefoot Socks" are, mentioned earlier in the thread. (I may be wrong, but I think they're priced lower than an upload. ;) )

I'm not sure what "cankles" are, I guess. I always thought they were just the inherent limitation of the avatar mesh, not the freaky spiky prongs that appear when the avatar isn't fully baked. Which is it?

Oh, also: I think the freaky prong things only show on the viewer to which the avatar is associated. At least, I don't think I've ever seen anybody else's.

Robin's Barefoot socks are FREE!!!!! I have them on already. Perfect! Her set also has gloves to do the same thing with loose sleeves.

Yes, I was just thinking of her socks when I was reading this thread.

FYI while wearing Robin's socks, the cankles are black instead of flesh colored. I am grateful that I'm the only one who sees them. :-)

I didn't know about those. I imagine lots of people have thought of 'barefoot socks' before me.

Nano Gunk sells things to fix that 'flesh colored' texture that wide sleeves or pant legs sometimes have. I think they charge $10 Linden.

I believe Bare Rose has free "shaded gloves" and "shaded socks" with an alpha gradient for just this purpose.

You know...I just re-read the title of this thread, and wondered why NObody has made this reply yet:

They're called "feet". :D

Regarding "what color is flesh colored," I will be more specific and say, "The color of AK's skin." I think this is the second time I have failed to be sufficiently politically correct on this forum.
