I'm just curious if it's allowed or frowned upon. I haven't used my account in over 6 months. But I remember building up a decent inventory, skins, clothes, scripts, machines, a few buildings I created, cars, planes, etc.. I didn't know if it would be worth someone taking over or not? And could I release myself liable from any drama that may ensue with ex's? LOL

Simple and short: Not allowed by the TOS.

Can't legally sell your account.
You can sell your belongings, though, at various second-hand markets in SL. If they are transferable, that is. |

avs do get bought and sold, but usually for the name or the rez date.
the inv isnt a factor from what i have heard. _____________________

TOS, that's what I was afraid of.
In that case, what would be easiest? Sell all my stuff individually in classified ads, or pay to rent a space for a month and put it all in boxes? But I'm sure most of the good stuff isn't transferrable. It's not the money I'm after, anyway. Just moving on I suppose. Maybe I should login someday. I bet there's still art hanging of mine in random places. Just wish life and work would've let me keep up on the fun and madness. Is the forum cartel hangout still around? |

I have known at least one person who bought an av for the inventory. I don't know why else you would buy one, actually, since (as was true in this case) you'd probably have to go to a lot of trouble telling people you weren't the same person as who used to own the av. But, as previously stated, this is STRICTLY against the TOS.

And could I release myself liable from any drama that may ensue with ex's? LOL What are the chances they'd believe the new person is not you, especially since buying an account can lead to being banned - chances are the drama would proceed as 'normal.' Why not just sell off your belongings instead. |

Is the forum cartel hangout still around? I think if you are basic, your account will stay around a while. It's only if you are downgrading from premium that accounts seem to get zeroed out after a couple months (I think.) Maybe taking a break from the drama and/or SL entirely, and/or making an alt, and starting over would help you instead. Sounds like this might be a momentary reaction based upon someone giving you a hard time. Yes, the hangout is alive and kicking. |

I was surprised to login the website and find I still had a few bucks in my 3d pockets. I guess they don't cancel inactive basics for a few months. I can't even tell my last login date, can anyone look that up for me? As I posted in the quitters thread, it's not the drama so much that I feel bad for disappearing on people. Now that RL is different, I can't live the ways I used to in SL. Seems an Alt and yard sale is the best solution for this one.. thanks! |

If you want to make an alt, do that first and transfer everything you can over to the new account. |

I once spoke to someone who was in the business of selling sort of "prepared" AV's to commercial organisations.
These prepared AV's would sell for about 100-150 US$, and would have a selection of quality clothing/outfits, vehicles, a good AO, some land with a house or office building on it, and a folder with lots of notecards for help on various topics. This was before new avatars got the way better clothing options they get now, by the way. But I have no idea if the guy is still doing this, or whether he actually ever made any money with this scheme. It's definitely against the TOS, but he was probably right in assuming that some people would be interrested in such an "out of the box" approach, especially back then. |

Seems an Alt and yard sale is the best solution for this one.. thanks! Just put something generally addressing the situation into your profile main page. Put something like, "RL is taking over for a while and I will not be online as much." That way people won't have to wonder what happened to you, or if you got hit by a bus - and some will, otherwise. Past forum threads attest to that. And you're welcome. Good luck. |

This is what the TOS actually says. Take it as you will.
2.4 Account registrations are limited per unique person. Transfers of accounts are generally not permitted. Linden Lab may require you to submit an indication of unique identity in the account registration process; e.g. credit card or other payment information, or SMS message code or other information requested by Linden Lab. When an account is created, the information given for the account must match the address, phone number, and/or other unique identifier information associated with the identification method. You may register multiple accounts per identification method only at Linden Lab's sole discretion. A single account may be used by a single legal entity at Linden Lab's sole discretion and subject to Linden Lab's requirements. Additional accounts beyond the first account per unique user may be subject to fees upon account creation. You may not transfer your Account to any third party without the prior written consent of Linden Lab; notwithstanding the foregoing, Linden Lab will not unreasonably withhold consent to the transfer of an Account in good standing by operation of valid written will to a single natural person, provided that proper notice and documentation are delivered as requested by Linden Lab. |

This seems to indicate to me that it's possible as long as you ask, and they would not normally refuse "Linden Lab will not unreasonably withhold consent to the transfer of an Account in good standing" Gomez _____________________

Seems I'll keep it, you guys convinced me quick. Now I gotta spend some time building a yard sale or just give it all away. then I can go back to flying around peacefully with flip flops and a margarita in hand.

There are places that will sell your stuff on commission, if you don't want to rent land for a yard sale.

Not that I am one to flout (hahaha, I used the right word) the rules, but there is a difference between what the TOS says and what is "possible".

But, as previously stated, this is STRICTLY against the TOS. I know someone that purchased a 2003 account so they would have what they called an "established account" to create a business in SL with. And this was someone that was already earning 200k Linden a week. It may be against the TOS. But LL does not care unless it brings drama their direction. _____________________

"Linden Lab will not unreasonably withhold consent to the transfer of an Account in good standing **by operation of valid written will to a single natural person, provided that proper notice and documentation are delivered as requested by Linden Lab.**" So I'm thinking it takes a bit more than just asking: - a valid written will - account transfered *to a single natural person* - notice and documentation provided to LL _____________________

If you have registered just a basic account then there is almost no data to verify and it would be difficult to prove who was the actual person behind the avatar.
