Dear all, I'm clueless and need some help. We share a piece of land, the land has the group set to it and within the group I have a role with capabilities set to - freeze / eject avatars - return objects - set LMs freely I.e. I'm not in the group owner role but a specificif "housekeeping" role. Only - the above mentioned capabilities doen't work though clearly set in the role. And yes, the group set to the land and the group we are talking about are the same. It would seem as if some basic link/switch/trigger was still missing. What could it be? Any hints appreciated. Oh yes, btw: *** HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009 *** Best regards Gud

ok, i'm still having my morning coffee so my brain may be a little sleepy yet...but...are you wearing your group tag when you try to perform these housekeeping tasks? otherwise, maybe SL is up to its tricks again.

Hi! The land can not just be set to the group. The land has to be deeded to the group in order for the roles to function.
Basicly, group roles only apply to land that the group itself owns, not land owned by a single person, but set to a group.

Hi Tini,
forgot of course to mention: Yes, I wear the group tag and yes, with the "correct" role, the one that has the capabilities in them.
As I'm the first in the group to use this role, it's kind of exploration work, as the actions work of course for the owners.
So I'm in the position to try to find out. Maybe I should pose the question the other way round: If I want, say, the ability to return objects to work: which prerequisites have to be fulfilled?
- Land needs the group <GRP> set - In group <GRP> we need a role that has Return objects set to group and Return non-group objects set.
Does the land has to be deeded?!?
I mean - the role looks ok but somehow the "link" between land and group seems to be not right.
Greetings, Gud

@ Dante - seems posting my previous reply took me too long That seems to be the missing link then. As I don't own the land and lack of experience - what DISadvantages would it bring to deed the land in order to make such functions possible? On the other hand - if a group can be set, group settings should be taken into account without deeding the land to the group? Same with objects - I can have other group members access an object without deeding it.... Cheers, Gud

Yeah, welcome to the mysterious ways of Groups. The underlying problem here is that about a half dozen different ideas are conflated in this "Group" thing, so it essentially fails at all of them. Group stuff in About Land / Options applies whether the land is deeded or set, but Parcel stuff in Group Information / Members & Roles / Abilities generally applies only to group-deeded land. (Now that I think about it, I'm unclear how the Ability to "Allow 'Set Home to Here' on group land" works anymore, now that one can set home to land that's merely set to group, not necessarily deeded. I guess now one can deed land to group in order to *prevent* some group members from being able to set home to the parcel? )
