My own sim has not upgraded. Has yours? If so, is it wonderful?

I promise to be nice : )

One of the sims I regularly visit has been on H4 public beta since it was out. Sadly I can't say I see much difference. Still just as laggy. Stability? who cares if you still can't move in a crowded area.

My neighbor claims that his role playing on Pern is much improved by the beta. Claims he can up his draw distance. Our sim is very clean as these things go in SL (few residents, scripts etc..), and sim statistics are banging on near perfect, so I am amazed that he gets better performance away from home.
Keep those havoc stories coming in folks. _____________________

Over half of the regions I frequent on a "daily basis" are in the Havok4 Early Adopter program. There are several things broken about H4, but it *definitely* doesn't crash as often.
It's gonna be a very bumpy upgrade, I imagine, while everyone adjusts to the differences. _____________________

Presumably there is not a list of which sims have Havoc 4.
I suppose we will all get to experience it just a short while. It is sort of driving me batty waiting though. _____________________

I've been flying around a bit tonight and I've found that Solbitgil and Danmu have been upgraded, I've been flying back and forth between their borders and at least in this one case sim crossings seem to be working better than ever, I'm not sure if Havoc 4 was supposed to address that. Overall performance in Solbitgil seems very good compared to normal considering the number of agents in the sim. So far, I am impressed, I think this may be the beginning of many good things to come and considering all the problems we've experienced lately, this is great news.

[EDIT, 22:12] Never mind, they're back. _____________________

Pern eh? do they have dragons to fight the thread? (no not forum thread, the thread that falls from the sky) Sorry, no clue. however my neighbor is a dragon when he is not a star ship pilot, so I think you may be on to something. I will have to ask him for a LM. _____________________

Me and my friends in W-Hat have been toying around with Havoc 4 in our sim for a while now. It took us weeks just to figure out how to crash it. Finally we figured out how, but only specifically looking for and using an exploit. This exploit was reported and fixed
![]() So yea, as far as physics goes, Havoc 4 is almost uncrashable. Even if you try to introduce a lot of time dilation, it will adjust itself and soon will return to functionable dilation levels. Packing in a ton of avatars into a sim is still going to cause lag- but the lag isn't from physics, but sim updates. Another consideration is that if you have a lot of avatars, all those avatars are probably going to have a ton of attachments and prims that also figure into updates. I've been to several very large events where the crowd has very attachment-light avatars, and the difference is considerable ![]() Also, Havoc 4 should cause absolutely no difference in framerates x.x It's physics, not rendering. He may be thinking of windlight, which may very well be the case: I find that I get very noticeably higher framerates in windlight with a GeForce 8800 GT card. |

it got delayed by 1 day by fixing some problems found on the wekend. They want all regions to be on havok4 code on 2008-04-02.

Anne McCaffrey could teach John Norman a thing or two about writing novels. Could have particle thread, maybe? _____________________

When my landlord switched to Havoc 4 beta (almost as soon as was physically possible, if you'll excuse the pun), I soon discovered that my tinters, cloners and loaders all were affected by a "feature" of the Havoc 4 engine... meaning they didn't work...
Couldn't have lived up to it's name better. My scripter, fortunately, had the presence of mind to find a workaround and we were back up in a week. One of the first things I noticed about Havoc 4, a feature I'm glad to say is now defunct, is that peopeused to slowly slide down the ramps in my shop... ![]() As it stands now, the only issue I have with Havoc 4 on the island I work on is that the tinting script in my glasses no longer behaves... but I reported this to the manufacturers... |
