Santa is bringing me a widescreen 22" monitor I hope. Got it down to 2 makes/models one a HP the other Samsung, both get good reviews appear to be equal in quality and pionts, HP about 10 to 15% cheaper. Stores recomend the HP to me of the two. The HP has different screen, it is glossy black when off, can see my reflection in it. LOL. Have you got one is this new type of screen ok for you? Do you wish you got normal grey/black screen? Love June

Ooooo! NICE! I'm still on my trusty ol' Dell 19" CRT. Still bright. Still sharp. Still capable of switching resolutions w/o losing quality. Altho- I'm insanely envious of those who run 30"+ monitors at the highest resolution.

I personally use a 32" HDTV which is kick-ass (and was a lot cheaper than a monitor) but I don't need high resolution as I sit at a distance so need it lower res to be able to read text comfortably.
I've seen some glossy monitors though, it really helps pull out contrast in some cases, but it's very much up to you, go look at the monitors in stores, several stores if you can. Try and go when it's really sunny or to a brightly-lit storeto see if the glossy layer suffers from glare/reflection when it's on.

Everything Haravikk says I have a grey glossy screen 32". Reflection off is no problem as it is against the window, not facing it but I remember the old CRT curved screens were a nightmare to position here at college being inundated with windows

Not sure which specific monitors are in the running here, but if Santa can squeeze 1920x1200 pixels in his bag, it's a significant win over 1680x1050. (Full-res HDTV is 1920x1080.)

Interesting. Newegg shows the Samsung considerably cheaper: HP for US$360, Samsung (226BW--"glossy black" for US$270 after rebate. (For a few bucks more than the HP, there's the 1920x1080 Acer AL2416WBsd. I have an earlier version of that monitor, and they're fussy about the input signal, sometimes requiring a power-cycle if the graphics card isn't playing nicely, but FWIW, it's been good to me for about a year now, even though the signals are running through a KVM. Mine definitely isn't glossy-black, though.)

But when going up to w/s I'm allso going to use digital output from my PC, but Acers do not have digital inputs. Yes your model here is cheaper than the 2 I'm looking at. Strange that HP is cheaper think they have gone for the £199.99 price slot. Not long since the prices of this type were £300+ have come down recently. Might well be the Samsungs become just under the £200 shortly. Samsung seem to like to confuse with many models, eg, SM223, 225, 226 and 2232 etc. with BW and CW on top, not forgetting UW( web cam). All to me appear to be same results on screen, the shops like it as they only stock one or two thus making it hard for shopper to get price match promises. But HP model appears to be a solo and all shops have same model. thanks to you and all for help. Love June

As a matter of fact, I almost walked out of the store with that Samsung yesterday The two best I found for specs vs. price was that Samsung and the 22inch Gateway. Acer was third with slightly less than 3000:1 contrast. Instead of the LCD monitor (because I already have a 21" flat tube monitor), I bought an Athlon64 X2 5200+ dual core CPU, DFI Infinity SLI motherboard, and 4GB Patriot dual channel DDR2 all for $20 less than that monitor. I'll probably end up splurging for a 24" LCD after new years tho...

I was in Best Buy the other day , buying stuff for the nieces and nephews and was looking at all the nice new monitors. I was tempted, but my $99 Sylvania 17inch crt is still going strong, so I just can't see tossing it.

I don't care, cause it works and looks good) for 100$ at Costco. Works wonderfully, no complaints... I know they get alot of flack (At least in my experience) regarding their electronics, but Costco did well in my opinion on this one... 20", 100$, good quality monitor!

Anyway yeah, big stores like that often have really good deals on monitors and such, and usually larger chains will also offer a warranty of some kind Trying so hard to stay on topic =P

I hate my current monitor, but it looks like I'm going to be completely replacing my computer after the first of the year, so maybe I can get a nice flat screen then, to go with all the other goodies. The gamer on my shoulder wants a rig that screams. The bookkeeper on my other shoulder wants one on the cheap. Something has to give. I'm thinking of killing the accountant with some of the gamer's toys. BOOM! headshot.
