After years of using my old HP "steam" monitor.I bought a new Flat screen.22 inches and looks like your watching the cinema job. So far so good, that was 5 hours ago.Great in photo shop I was so impressed until I logged on to SL.
Good grief,is this the way everybody sees it? Washed out to the point of looking bland or are my settings wrong? My stuff looks crap(that might be my fault)but I like and am used to a darker ,richer feel to the game. I might get used to it but I don't want to.

Edit... Preferences... Graphics... Hardware Options... Gamma
Might be able to tweak things more to your tastes there.

Hi there, Alvaro Zapatero, Professional Graphic Designer here.
Every monitor is different as you've seen. When I got my new iMac I was APPALLED at the color that came out of the box (and I drop my trousers for Apple every day!)
Luckily at my workplace we have a monitor calibrator, Pantone Eye-One (now Gretag MacBeth i1) that I borrowed and ran on my monitor. The difference is night and day!
Now these calibrators are priced from $120 up, so I don't expect you to just run out and grab one. But the results are dramatic. Anybody working professionally, who relies on their monitor for accurate color is crazy to live without one.
If you don't feel like opening up your wallet for that amount Google Monitor Calibration, or look it up in your Help menu. You'll find a way to beat The Blues.

Your video driver, or software that comes with it, might allow you to adjust your monitor generally and also allow you to save specific settings for specific programs.

Thanks for that all, I played with Gamma and cut the brightness.I will check the other stuff and see what I get as I still don't like the color.
