Before trying this I wanted to see if someone could clear up a couple things for me.
The instructions say I have to install the special SLim enabled first look viewer. Does thatmean I ave o use that viewer or do I just have to install it, enable voice and then un-install it?
If I do the above, do I need to have voice enabled on the viewer I actually use?
The detail of what I want to do are this:
I have SL release viewer on PC A. I want to install SLim on PC B which would be where I'd install the first look viwer as well. And thinking about it, I don't really care if I have to leave the first look installed as long as I don't have to use it.
Another thing. I don't care if the SLim client knows whether I'm in world with the viewer or not. I only intend to have SLim open when I need to use it and I'm not in world on the viewer.
Thanks!

Hi Henrietta:
You need to install the SLim First Look viewer, login, and enable voice at least once - that will populate your friends list in SLim
After that, you can run SLim as you have planned (with or without a viewer).
Did you know, though, you will only be able to use SLim to communicate with other users that are either running SLim or the SLim First Look viewer and have voice enabled? You will not be able to communicate to people using other viewer versions.

You will not be able to communicate to people using other viewer versions. It was not very usable the first time that I really wanted to use it. This Slim client does not solve the problem of communication while I can not get in world. BT

Perhaps Metabolt at http://www.metabolt.net/ would suit you better.

Hey thanks! I have never heard of Metabolt. I tried it, but it did not work on this web connection. I could not download my friends list. Then, I though, omg, I put my password on a 3rd party software! So, I shut it off and changed my password. It sounded like a great idea, but it did not work for me. I did not see any warnings on Google about this software being malicious. bt

I tried MetaBolt today and it seemed to work fine. For what that's worth.

From: Bhakta Thor Hey thanks! I have never heard of Metabolt. I tried it, but it did not work on this web connection. If you are on a slow connection you could try TRIM - http://code.google.com/p/trim/ which uses some tricks to reduce the amount of traffic send from the servers to the client. Matthew
