I've just been copybotted!!!

I was down at Freebies dungeon when I sudeenly noticed an avatar standing near me had changed into a replica of me. At first I thought it was textures playing up but the avatar had red text above it saying that it was a copybot and would copy stuff for people. It copied my appearance and outfit apart from the attachments.

I was dressed in my Egotherapy work outfit, which is quite distinctive, I made it myself apart from the green trainers. I was trying to get next to the copybot to take a snapshot when I crashed. I went back but it was gone.

Here is a pic of me in the outfit. I have dated photos on Fliclkr to prove I made the outfit before the I got copybotted today.

A friend was telling me about this yesterday. Not only did she have her skins ripped, to add insult to injury someone copybotted her partner!

Is this AR-able? I didn't get the name of the copybotter but they clearly offer to copy things on demand, presumably at a price. They had red floating text above them saying that.

The outfit in question has never been on sale and I think I gave one copy awy to someone ages ago and I've altered it a bit since then anyway. It has a logo on it that is highly unlikely to have been dreamt up by someone else coincidentally!

Anyway, this copybot was operating at FREEBIES DUNGEON.

Yes it's AR'able, in the latest client there's a category for copybot.

That is rather disturbing! I do not believe this is what is meant by "Spreading the Wealth." I'd never share my husband/partner with another living being in any universe. Did you make an AR?

...I could see many people risking a permaban for that... but say it doesn't work out, things aren't quite as expected... just lean over, whisper in her ear: !quit!quit!quit!quit...

I think I'll stay home for awhile, or change into the old Honey when I'm out and about.

Wonder why Linden Lab lets this go on .But dare copy there creations then your banned . I've sent so many reports about the copybots and all that happened was copying others creations is getting worse .I guess SL'S CITIZENS ARE THAT IMPORANT GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

That mode of copybot is really used more to upset and annoy people than to copy stuff, normally that trick doesn't even save anything. For the actual nasty kind of copying that gets your stuff into someone else's shop, you wouldn't see anything happen at all until the items were up for sale.

Anyone who's wearing a big red sign saying "LOOK I ARE TEH COPY BOT!!" is all about the grief, thieves in it for the thievery aren't going to announce themselves. Go ahead and AR if you catch an avatar name in time, but don't worry if you missed out, that one probably wasn't an actual threat to anyone.

What sim is that in the photo? It looks amazing.

Just to be clear, the "clone avatar" trick is not a true copy of your avatar. It is not turned into any transferable assets. All it does is copy the appearance in a temporary fashion. As soon as the copybot logs off or copies someone else, the copies are lost. It only copies the "baked" appearance that your client uploads when you log on or switch outfits.

Now, someone *MIGHT* have modified it to store those "baked" copies, and reupload them at will, but they are only client-local. Making assets out of them would be rather dubious.

Still, if someone does it without your permission, AR them.

The background to my photo is indeed Damania. It is one of the most amazing builds I've seen in the whole of SL. It covers a 2-sim island, one called Damania and the other, I think, Eltonia. Also, next to it is another sim that is a round island called Utopia, which is similarly imaginitive but themed in pink!
