The other day, I was handed a pack of freebie skins. Now, as we all know, most "freebie" skins these days are actually ripped skins. That in mind, I still thanked the person for their well-intended gift, and causually thumbed through the folder. Among the contents were some early freebie skins, some "caramels" (long a "Noob" skin), and a few rather nice looking skins. 2 in particular caught my eye as being particularly nice. When I finally settled on the one that was my favourite in the pack, I figured I would ask around, and see if anyone knew who made the original skin, and where I could go buy one. The skin is simply named "Lighter Skin". The skin shows it's creator as "NULL_KEY", and shows no "name". In "Edit Appearance", the skin is simply called "Musician Dude Light Skin".. but as we know, this header information on the actual "skin file" usually has little or nothing to do with the actual textures on the skin. So all I have, is some photos. I've left out the nipples, and the skin itself HAS no genitalia. But otherwise.. well, see for yourself.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville Is it related to the musician chick in our inventories? Not at first glance.... HOWEVER it does actually seem to be a lighter version of the "Musician Male Medium Skin"... As odd as that seems. Soo... I'm actually on the trail now! It looks like someone GLIntercepted the textures off the Musician Male skin, photoshopped them lighter, and then re-upped them. "Musician Male" is by "Renegade Clothing".. so I'll be looking them up. Thanks! Edit: I checked out their shop, and it seems that they made these skins special for the Library offering. There are no similar skins in their shop.. which does seem to explain why someone decided to hack the freebie. (and since it's a library freebie.. honestly that's about as "public domain" as you can get.). Oh well.. It's a great looking freebie skin. I'm glad to know it's not "really" stolen.

That really looks like an Eloh navel, and I think she mentioned at one point that some of the new library skins were derived from hers uncredited.
There are some intact Eloh skins up at Gnubie if you want to compare without uploading.

There are some intact Eloh skins up at Gnubie if you want to compare without uploading. Turns out, that's exactly what it is. Linden Lab library files, made from modified Eloh skin. I'm still looking for the Male skin it's based on. It's really weird how well it work's as a female skin. So I'm coursing through the various Eloh files. Only issue is her screwy naming system. But, beggars can't be choosers. Leastwise I will be able to set up the makeup how I want to.

Mine is a modified Eloh skin too and I love the total choice I get with it. That was a world class favour Eloh did everyone by allowing those skins to be used by anyone.

From: Winter Ventura So I'm coursing through the various Eloh files. Only issue is her screwy naming system. lol I'm in the process of hopefully fixing this soon with my next set of skins (and re-classifying the older ones with names instead of catalogue numbers). I've sorted realized that it'd probably be better to name my skins something like, "Pleiades, Maia – Fair Female" or "Sins, Gluttony – Tan Female" rather than "Rf0" But, for the time being, the way my screwy naming system works is: First character (a letter) designates the skin tone–from lightest to darkest: R = pale, L = fair, S = tan, F = dark; there was also a C which was about the same brightness as R, but pinker in hue. Second character (a letter) designates the generation–e.g. "f" generation is newer than "e" generation Third character (a number–inconsistently used prior to "f" generation skins) used to designate a freebie/beta version ("0" , but since the [experimental] male skins introduce with "f" generation, I've used this to differentiate female (denoted by "0" and male (denoted by "1" varieties. So something like "Lf0" would mean "a fair-toned female skin from the 'f' generation (released around late 2007/early 200 " Hope this helps! I'm probably a little OCD... /panic

Eloh thank you for explaining that, I always wondered what the naming meant on your skin files. by the way, THANK YOU for releasing them, they are a godsend. I have found myself using them as the bottom layer when making clothes so I can better assess how the clothing will look on an avatar. (I use the SL clothing viewer thing to test seams and such) and it is so much easier to see how the clothing look when placed over a skin, instead of just the white it defaults to So a huge thank you for a very useful tool! PS I saw the one on SLEX that is for sale, (not by you, but you mentioned it on your blog I think it was) and commented on it, and the guy doesn't think he is doing anything wrong. smarmy!)
