Yesterday when my friends and I were fishing in my backyard on Mainland, I couldnt help noticing being spammed by what appeared to be "lucky chairs." Those things would each shout several lines of freebie prize yammer every few minutes, one after the other. It was pretty annoying.
For someone who has taken great care in situating my "fishing game" barrel so only one neighbor gets partial earshot - and I had taken the initiative to contact them first about where it is for easy muting (in fact, I had originally intended to use a transparent object and decided on the barrel for just that reason), I expected no less from anyone else.
And I definitely expected to hear nothing halfway across the region. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if they are on our side of the border of the region or in the other!
Thanks to Torley's recent video tutorial I found the objects when it got too annoying for myself and my guests (except the beacons dont appear unless the thing is actually making the sound at that moment rather than identifying sound in the script, something LL should fix), and I came to what looked like some backyard several parcels northwest (edge of the sim actually). They must be new to the area, because this didn't occur before. Yes it came from them, no they weren't going to limit the range. They wanted the things to yell because it was good for business...
...and screw any neighbors he might have. The northeastern part of the region are all residents. West of what I call the yelling chairs is a residential land as well, and due south of them are new residents looking to make a home of their new parcel.
This is the second time people who think they have big bucks planned think no one else counts except them, and dirty stinking mainland homesteaders had better get out of their way.
I would like to think the AR I sent with the chat window of conversation is taken to heart by LL. I have a lot more chat logged of course, including their coming to my property to judge my fishing server and stargate. The latter output a list of top gates for the first time since I've owned it, but that isn't shouted. However I will see with the creators whether that can be output on a private channel to the requesters. The last thing I need is retaliation from unethical people who are incapable of taking responsibility for their actions. The owner's attitude at my place was "mute them" and his girlfriend made remarks like I had no right and it was a joke to even object to the chairs yelling across 40+ m to annoy visitors to my fishing pond - and I get people in from the stargate etc to fish quite often.
I can't believe they're serious. They expected these to work for people who HAPPENED to fly by the moment those things dumped chat to everyone? The only people who would hear it are residents and their guests, and other than "What the hell is that?" my guests are not going to be running to their store.
I hope the AR actually works. This is BS.

Good luck with the AR. In my experience most businesses/clubs/casinos like this disappear in a month or two anyway when they realise they're not making any money and they move onto their next 'get rich quick' scheme.
Btw, it's against Forum rules to post names, not sure if the same goes for business names too.

I have dealt with folks like this, who placed a full region mall next to my full region mall, except theirs was full of business in a box stuff. Since they refused to turn off the lucky chairs that were shouting into my region, I put up a large sign that says, "if you can read this, your buying free stuff!". That sign was up for 1 day and was told that the chairs have been quieted. I removed the mega prim immediately. Sometimes you have to create ways to stop others in their tracks. However, it could have easily escalated into something much more worse, which LL then would have to get involved.

Ohhh theres a place on my continent south of here that takes up an entire region and sells nothing but NCI freebie wall type stuff for money. I can't believe they can make anything back; the only people I saw in there were campers. Welp if their stupid chairs don't quiet down in about a week, I might take more "interesting" action. As for my fishing server, I can easily shift it by 3m south, where the business has their place about 300m up and are oblivious. The fishing only reports in a 20m radius, quite manageable for a plot my size. But since the neighbor to my north has either not built anything or has their place in the sky as well, it's been a nonissue and he has not responded. btw another thing: how is anyone supposed to know where the chairs or store are? They are this 512 parcel! You don't suppose they're going to put up this giant spinning fullbright chair over their place, spouting comfy particles? EEEEEP!

*blinks* Wow. Good for business, huh? Well, I know that lucky chairs are decent for business, but not the ones that yell their heads off and annoy people. My single chair is set to whisper, because I can't afford to mute the thing. I don't WANT to hear it when I'm working in the workshop and I know that the neighbors don't wanna hear it either.

There is a biker bar a few lots from my property. The first bike was kind of nice to hear, then several others came online and now it's constant bike noise all the time, with more added daily. I've muted the owners of the property and bikes when I can find which ones are making noise, but there are also free money givers and campers galore now. I can't figure out where sound, or spam, is coming from at this point.
I haven't asked them yet to keep the sound on their land because I'm hoping the problem will resolve before I have to ask. I'm also hoping that someone else will complain before I do. No such luck yet.

isnt there an option to limit spatial sounds to those created on your own property? im pretty sure there is. the text spam is another issue though. No such luck yet. If you don't contact them, they probably have no idea they are creating a problem. I suggest you send them a simple notecard telling them the noise is going into your land and can they turn it down pls. In my experience this has had positive results 90% of the time. You always do get some who are total idiots and then I simply report them.

Twice I've had a similar problem. Once, the lucky chairs in a mall shouted the new letters every few minutes. The other time, the security system of a neighbour was shouting alerts twice a minute. In both cases, a simple conversation with the land owners and they turned off the sound.

I've had people wander in from the biker bar onto my property, look around and buy stuff so they've been good for my business. There is a vacant parcel between us, about 512m with no ban-lines so I think I'm getting avatars actually walking over to my property to look around.

I'm not big on complaining about things I think LL "should do", but this is one exception.
In FL I can buy/put up/do things to insulate myself from exterior sounds. I can plant trees along a border, I can go indoors, I can close my window, I can put sound insulation in my walls... lotsa stuff I would like there to be a way to do something similar in SL.
I wish there were either parcel sound limits or maybe some sort of sound insulation prim.
Other users here have creative solutions for nearby lights which shine through walls, too bad we dont' have somethign similar for sound.

There's already a setting to confine sounds to your own parcel, but yeah; it would be fabulous if there was one to *exclude* all sounds outside your parcel.
