ive noticed in the client im using (Second Life 1.20.15 (92456) Jul 18 2008 10:58:42 (Second Life Release) that i can now drag my buildings or whatever from ground level right up past the 700+ build height as far as i want without having to re-rez above the normal build height. is this a bug or is this standard now? thanx in advance

Nothing in SL is a bug.. it's all 'features' unless it's something we really want.. then it's a bug.
And it's standard now. With Havok 4 they were able to increase the build height.

It is standard in the 1.20.15 viewer. (As Raudf says, it was implemented on the server side with Havok 4, but you couldn't actually make use of the new limits until the viewer software got upgraded, too.)
If you're using an older viewer, you can still visit builds at the new height, but if you try to edit anything up there, it will snap back down to 768 meters.

You can build upto 4096 meters high now. Above 1024 meters, you'll get above the atmosphere, meaning the "ground" below you is no longer visible.
I noticed there has also been a change to max link distance. Builds I could not completely link together before (for example, because there were some small sized prims within a 30*30 sized build) can now be completely linked together. Don't ask me how far the new limits stretch. But this was a VERY welcome change already.

Hey, there's another item for the wishlist...an improvement to Windlight to make the sky go black, the stars come out, and a pseudo earth-from-space image appear below you, when you go "out of the atmosphere".

It would also be nice to have it so the sky would go black, then have some stars. Being able to see the earth below would also be cool, like you were in space..
