Finally, I think we made it to Beta status.
We have:
Beta ID Verification
Beta Wind Light
Beta Havok grid
A new Beta web based log in system
Beta search
and a Beta Linux Client without voice, so voice is kind of Beta as well.
Oh wait, I believe the Vista client is Beta as well?
Would any kind soul out there tell me when we might progress to Alpha or Stable status? And in the meantime, should the main page be re-labelled "Second Life Beta"?

you do not progress to alpha from beta hehe
beta comes after alpha, then again this is SL, so it might work the other way
backwards to alpha, then no SL at all...

Besides, I don't think this is a resident-answerable question.
For that matter, i don't think it's a God-answerable question.

LOL Actually I was thinking earlier today when there was a question about problems crashing or some such and the OP was which version they were using........ How many are there?? And that's even without third party clients.  As for the web-based log in thingy... I noticed that in the blog post as well. Guess they're gonna be flipping a lot of switches over the next few Fridays huh |

You will need to go to the beta grind which is really the alpha grid just that no one will tell the regulars who hang there because they would want to be put on a salary and keep all the nifty stuff they buy with the heaps of $L they get with each new snapshot! Stable…do you mean that as a noun or an adjective? |

Darn it! I missed sarcasm day again? Hmm ok. I'll second guess that until the next big Beta development comes along (skinable UI anyone?), we're still a long way off proper Beta status. And yeah, I was vaguely aware that progressing to Alpha would be a refreshingly honest step |

Yes, leaving it as it was 3 years ago and never improving would be better than adding BETA features.
Especially since none of these features you mentioned are mandatory at the moment.
Even with a BETA grid there is no way to test everything that could be done with a new improvement. Until you have 50,000 people doing 100,000 different things with a program there is no way to make sure everything works. And that ain't gonna happen on the BETA grid.
