Hey!

My friend is starting up in sl and he needs to know where he can get nice stuff without spending alot of Lindens.

if you can't get a hold of lucrezia then stop by my office in my picks. her kit is sitting on the bench to your right as you walk in. just right click and buy it for $0L.

there's also over 4k free textures there that i've collected from various places in SL if they want some textures to help them start building. Also a couple photo studios there if they want to take some pics for their profile.

There is a free male starter kit at Calla called "Jack in a Box", it has all the basic needs in there, hair, shape, skin, clothes, AO. This and a couple of free hair packs are located to the left of the entrance at a kind of desk area.

I always keep a "Jack in a Box" and "Jill in a Box" kit in my inventory just for noob emergencies!

I logged an old alt on today, had completely forgotten all about him. He needed everything, so I did a search on free and freebies, and went to Freebie Island:

There I found tons of male skins, shapes, hair, clothes, silly vehicles, lots and lots of nice female skins, shapes, clothes, jewelry, buildings, weapons, gangsta-style things, animations, poses and much more! A lot of it is BIAB with full perms, and everything is comletely free of cost. I know I jumped a bit when I saw all the BIAB with the 0L price tag, knowing I have seen them going for 10-500L so many other places. It was great to see all the new comers having a great time running around "buying" everything and trying it in immediately! :) I suggest you go there and have a look, anyway. I found a very nice male skin which I put on my newbie alt, and he looks manly without being macho.
