If you want to unlink a whole object into separate prims, select it in edit mode and then Ctrl-Shift-L will unlink it.
If you onmly want to unlink part of it, tick the "edit linked parts" box at the top of the edit window, select those prims you want to unlink and then Ctrl-Shift-L will unlink those prims from the main object (and each other). EDIT sorry missed that you wanted to know how to link. Select the prims you want to link - hold down shift and click on each prim, then Ctrl-L will link them. Be careful of the order you select them, the last one selected will be the "root" prim, which has implications for moving and setting various parameters, so choose your root carefully. |

Search the knowledge base for link to get full article.
cut from the knowledgebase (to unlink select the unlink option - to unlink a single prim use the edit individual prim and select unlink) Linking an object. 1) If you are not in the object Editor already, right-click any object and choose Edit, or open the Editor with Ctrl-3. 2) Click on any empty area to make sure you do not have any objects selected. 3) Hold down the Shift key, and click on each prim you want to link together. The last prim you select will be the parent link. 4) Once you have all the prims selected, open the Tools menu and select Link, or press Ctrl-L. |
