I do not currently own a full sim. So I cannot purchase an openspace sim from the land store. However, can I have an openspace sim transferred to me from someone who can purchase one?

There's other options. I got mine from Sofia Westwick - can not recommend her highly enough. Fantastic customer service, also she offers the chance to rent only, or to purchase and have a lower tier monthly.
She's offline atm but IM her if you want. She can have an island online for you within 15 minutes, named whatever you want it to be so long as it's not offensive and not already used for a region. She'll offer you a choice of RAW files too if you don't have one you want to use.

But can she offer a FULL sim transfer so that I become the full owner? Or is it just that I own the land but she technically still owns the sim?

From: Vinny Nitely But can she offer a FULL sim transfer so that I become the full owner? Or is it just that I own the land but she technically still owns the sim? This is not possible. You need to have a full prim sim. ---- An owner of one full prim and lets say 20 low prim sims can't even sell his full prim sim or he will lose all low prim sims.

From: Vinny Nitely Or is it just that I own the land but she technically still owns the sim? You answered your own question . LL won't let you own an openspace without owning a full - private - sim already. You can rent one from someone and if they add you as an estate manager (not all do, so that would be something to ask beforehand) the only things you wouldn't be able to do have to do with the terrain map (specifically you can't bake it or save/load a RAW map).

Fraid so Vinny - unless you pony up for a full sim yourself, thems the breaks.
***edit Sofia gives you full Estate Management rights, and when SL allows Estate Managers to upload RAW files then that too (coming up, I understand).
Deals like this are as near as you can get.

I have mine from Jackson Rickenbacker. She has wonderful customer service staff, you can upload raw files and have estate rights as well. I have lived on her sims for almost 2 years.
