My in-world time has been limited lately by RL circumstances, so I'm a little out of the loop. Has there been any word about the pending revised adfarm ban? And has anybody recently received successful resolution to an adfarm harassment AR for a clear violation of the existing rules? I ask because I used to get very timely responses to these ARs, but now even the most egregious ones aren't getting handled. Example: A 16 for sale for L$2500 at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rosemary/114/110/53, complete with a spinning tower depicting female masturbation, parcel named "Get Real Pussy Near You!" and described "Feel Like doing some F*cking in your Local Area? Click the Slutty Girl spinning around and register." (The "*" is my edit, for Forum propriety.) As an added attraction, there's parcel encroachment as the cheezy light beam llTargetOmega()s around. So, I'm thinking maybe G-Team is just not bothering with adfarm stuff right now, pending something major in the new policy. Or, it could be that they're just ignoring *my* adfarm ARs because I've tested a few marginal cases (e.g., access banlines as harassment by the ROBOmatic--it slices! it dices!).

Last word on this Qie at Jack's office hour on Wednesday was that a new policy is coming soon, which is the same news we were being told a few weeks ago.

well i for one am hoping it comes into effect real soon.
i was looking for a nice plot of land (4096sm), i found a great piece. lovely & flat, nicely squared with no cutouts.
the only problem being, 2 plots away was a huge area neatly divided up into little squares. needless to say . . . i didnt buy that piece of land, and settled for something that was not quite as flat . . . . but still a nice plot

last week i filed one after a clear harrasment case, i bought a 16sqm for 495 , and then offered L$500 for a nearby 32sqm, the adfarmer ( lets call her/him Cytherea ) replied to look into it, and when i got back there, the parcels where rearanged, placing a big green glowing ad-sign, and doubling the price on the remaining land ..16sqm for L$1995 ( i filed a extorsion AR, still waiting for an answer ). *funny? enough a tree i placed out of frustration was removed by LL within an hour, while im now waiting 4days .

Ciaran, thanks for the update. Salvador: very interesting. So they're still responding to the adrunners, but not to residents complaining about the adfarms. God knows what this may indicate about the pending policy. [PANGLOSS]Probably they figure they'll have to clear all encroaching prims when they confiscate all the ad / extortion parcels anyway, so may as well go ahead and remove the trees now.[/PANGLOSS]

From: Qie Niangao And has anybody recently received successful resolution to an adfarm harassment AR for a clear violation of the existing rules? I've personally seen adfarm ARs (even from multiple people) ignored, and also some reports acted on quickly. I think maybe the ones that LL responded to had sexual content on PG land, while the ones they ignored were just classic adfarmer: huge spinning signs on tiny plots for sale at outrageous prices (including direct extortion - prices go up when you inquire if perhaps they would sell at only a high, but not insane, price.) Bottom line: adfarm ARing didn't seem to work, really. This was over the course of many months.

i went to live-chat, but had to file a ticket i understand there will always be advertisement in sl, there should be limits to how it affects the surrounding residents, so regarding the new policy i hope on size and design restrictions, - like not bigger then max 10x10m. - not allow spamming of notecards, urls or whatever from a parcel smaller then 512sqm - not allow obvious "look how i can mess with you" intended designs *including banline-designs by people like somebody i shall call let's say ROBOt .

I once tried live chat on an encroachment issue. The answer was that such matters are for the Governance team. A ticket had to be filed. "- not allow spamming of notecards, urls or whatever from a parcel smaller then 512sqm" Not allowing spamming of notecards, urls or whatever outside of a parcel boundary, regardless of the parcel size. Spam your heart out with people inside your boundary. "*including banline-designs by people like somebody i shall call let's say ROBOt" Advertising is allowed. Ban lines are allowed (Sh*t). LL (used to) make a judgement call on whether the appearance of a parcel was calculated to drive an unreasonably high purchase price. They could very easily treat ban-lines as prims in that judgement.

Any new restrictions on ad parcels can't be added fast enough for me. I've just made the joyous discovery that there's a new ad tower that's recently appeared near my store. It's glowing green (set to give off light, not just full-bright) and also has a particle beacon on top (once again in a lurid green). It looks to me as if its designed to offend rather than to advertise, since the ghastly green light serves to make the ads harder to read (ok, so maybe that's a silver lining?). But since the parcel's not for sale, it doesn't appear to be a cut-n-dried case of extortion. Perhaps the owner's pissed off at someone in the sim and decided to "share the love" with the rest of us as well? Ugh.
I've done my best to take ad parcel owners' claims of "but we do try to be considerate of neighbours!" seriously, and I've seen the owner of this one claim exactly that in other threads. But this craptacular construction really does give the lie to that. It appears designed specifically to offend. And given the geography of my land, I can't really put up blocking screens without blocking myself in and spoiling the view even more. *sigh* I can turn my draw distance down, and I do that; but even then, I can still see the particle beacon.
Ah well, hurrah for living underwater. Even if this lagtastic monstrosity makes for a horrid visual experience for my store customers, I can at least hide in my underwater workshop and be spared it. But I'm getting more and more tempted to just sell my quarter-sim and use the proceeds to get an entire openspace sim somewhere for my store. Honestly, it couldn't be more laggy and bogged down than my land is currently, what with laggy neighbours, ad towers and nearby gaming rooms. *sigh*
Not happy.

Hi Nimbus
I've just spent the last hour trying to mute a tall ad sign with a glowing green stream coming out of the top, kindly erected by someone who has had a lot of mention here over the past few days. I can't really see the stream from the ground, but when I sit in my skybox at 800 sq m odd high and it lights up the night sky, that's a bit much.
There were 7 prims on the 32 sq m plot, but I could only find 5 of them (obviously the big green particle spewing prim was hidden inside the others. Anyway, after reading various threads here, I muted the owner. Hey presto, big green stream gone. Well, for me anyway.
Might be worth a try.

well ...i tried buying a 176sqm directly from LLabs, filed a ticket 5days ago, it was abandond by the previous owner of a adjecent parcel i purchased last week. this 176sqm is surrounding the ad-sign i was speaking of above. today i got a ticket response, that LLabs could not sell me this parcel because i didnt own land on 3! sides of it, i had the 16sqm on the far-side of it and wanted to connect it to the 6800sqm on the other side. instead they would put it up for sale instantly to the 1st grabber, WTH ?! - we all know thats 99.9% gonna be a bot ? , why is that better then selling it to a neighbour ?! FFS!! LL! so obviously Very Bad Policy .

From: Meade Paravane Did they really put it up for sale? I would have thought that it would go to auction.. that could have been even worse, but some time ago i read parcels below 512sqm could be bought directly if you owned an adjecent parcel, didnt hear about the funny 3side rule till today .

From: Salvador Nakamura that could have been even worse, but some time ago i read parcels below 512sqm could be bought directly if you owned an adjecent parcel, didnt hear about the funny 3side rule till today Well, the choices are: - LL keeps the land (unlikely) - LL gives you the land (not happening) - LL sets the land for sale (you say "FFS!! LL! so obviously Very Bad Policy" - LL auctions the land ("that could have been even worse" So you might want to prepare for being unhappy about what happens here. The 3-side rule is actually actually pretty old, I think..
