How much would you pay for a slice of land, what's the top price you've paid or would consider paying.

How about 732 Linden Dollars for a square metre, sounds insane but that's what's being asked in Bay City at the moment for a few 1024 plots (750K). A quick check over at the Linden Exchange tells me that's US$2841, or put another way a little short of three islands.

Three islands that's 45000 prims to play with whereas 1024m that's about 400(ish).

Three islands, that's one for yourself and two to rent out and make a profit to boot. 1024m that's about enough room to swing a cat (assuming you want to live with a cat with head injuries).

When I saw a plot go at auction recently for 380K I thought 'this is just silly', now I see these prices I think 'it's plain insane'.

Well that's my weekly rant over with..

I agree the prices you mentioned are insane, but the tier will be $5/mo on the 1024 and something like $885/mo on the islands. I won't be doing either any time soon (though I am still excited to see how Bay City turns out).

I paid L$12/m, L$11/m, L$10/m and L9/m respectively for my 4 plots and that was about 3 months ago. The two tops ones are water plots with the L$12/m opening out on to lots of protected Linden ocean sims :)

No, a 1024 supports only 234 prims.

*bump*

Actually my alt bought a first land plot too which she then just resold :o.

---

Both my current rentals are pure rentals, I didn't pay for either the land on a private sim or for the openspace and L$0/m² is as much as I'd ever pay for a rental.

yeah, bay city is insane. I just sold a 512 for a measly 6 bucks! Maybe I will just throw in some canals and sell my next one for a couple of grand. I'll call it Bay City 2.

This was one of the reasons that the First Land program was shut down.
Alts (and Alts en masse by the land dealers) were getting land for L$1/m and reselling
Land dealers waited at new First Land and blagged newbies out of the land for low prices.

Nobody HAS to buy a plot at Bay City, there's much cheaper land elsewhere. It's a prestige site and, like in RL, these have high land values.

How much would I pay for a piece of land? The minimum or a little above if I'm just after a general plot. I'd pay more for land in my home sim, especially if it ajoins my home - perhaps double the market value. Also more for roadside or waterfront.

There's a 32m plot biting into my land that's been on sale for a while at L$2400. I'd go as high as L$500 for it, no more.

The most highest proprtionate price I've paid for a piece of land was when I bought the wrong plot by mistake. I wanted a 32m plot that was L$400, and there were several of them together. But I accidentally bought the only one that was L$3500!

Thats exactly what happened when I bought my first land. People came from all around to buy it off me cheap to make a profit. This was not a great experience for a newcomer although I new they were trying to rip me of it still left a bad taste.I kept my land until I found one that suited me better and made my first profit.

Maybe it would be a good idea to bring first land back but only with a 12-month membership paid.

i have something for sale at over L23 per meter, but that's only to make a jerkish neighbor (who's done everything possible to try and extort me - including the beginning of this little annoying venture in which he/she tried to convince me that waterfront is going for 2m - funny actually, but now duly muted and ignored) pay high if he/she really wants it. i'd gladly sell it lower if a fair offer came along.

i sold some land at 30m in March. i have, and would again be willing to pay 18m-20m for the right property.

the most i ever paid was 9,999L$ for a 16 sq meter plot... the girl was insane and didnt want to lower the prices... nd because i asked her to (and i told her i would greatfully buy it) she put up for sale ads about 100 meters high... mind you my land was all around except for this one spot... so i grtitted my teeth and paid for it.....

Regreatfully i was joking with a friend and put my sale up for a dollar and it got snatched up in split second bye some real estate company (i didnt know they had bots)

so now i have no money and no land :(

Something like that.

Maybe reserved sims full of 512 or 1024 parcels that are
- available to residents who wanted it during their first year only
- free
- unsellable - use the code that PI owners have to retain and control 'ownership'
- taken back after the year is up
- on a use it or lose it basis to avoid a total wasteland (formula?)

The sims might be messy, despite the absence of ad farms.
They might be used basically private sandboxes with non-return, but there would be nothing to prevent people building homes on ground or in the sky.

It might help to retain people who would not otherwise have tried buying land and building.

As anyone who reads the forums even casually knows, I have a small chunk of Bay City. I got lucky an got the auction during a weekend after the first initial rush -- I still paid more than a similar sized piece of land jes about anywhere else on the grid, but not the prices that many others did or are asking for now.

And I would not pay that sorta price for land in a lot of other places, either. Heck, prior to gettin' it, I was eyeballing Nova Albion and some old mainland spaces -- but FWIW, aside form Sansara and the Heterocera Atoll, I'm not very interested in owning mainland. Perhaps funny in a world where we just TP to wherever, but I prefer the older, more "settled" areas. I also like having the roads at my disposal as well as other mainland "perks" (such as they are).

But I would never, ever pay 732/m2 no matter where the plot of land is. At those prices, that land will sit empty for a very very long time.

Mari

This was one of the reasons that the First Land program was shut down.
Alts (and Alts en masse by the land dealers) were getting land for L$1/m and reselling
Land dealers waited at new First Land and blagged newbies out of the land for low prices.
LL was still dumping simfulls of First Land at that time, you had your pick of dozens of plots across several sims (some abandoned land on existing sims would relist as First Land as well).

Noone missed out on First Land just because my alt got one, and the neighbour bought it at far less than it could have gone for, it served its purpose :).

---

Landflippers with alts were a problem, as well as the newbie landowner scams ("I'll give you... well... L$1k for it, sound good?";) but the biggest problem was that LL just stopped dumping mainland sims at one point, driving land prices higher and making it even more profitable to scam people out of their first land/grab it with premium alts.

When they finally fixed the supply problem they took the usual easy way out instead of actually governing and stopping the abuse. It would have been easy to make first land unprofitable for land dealers, they just couldn't be bothered.
