I managed to get verified last night. Today I was looking inworld and I see nothing on my profile has changed, and nothing on the profiles of a few friends who have also verified. So I reckon we'll need another viewer update or something, before all this actually takes effect? One specific thing she mentioned was in regard to land tools: From: someone • As a parcel/estate owner, how do I flag content as ‘restricted’?
Land owners will find a check box in their land management tools that they will be able to check if they have restricted content on their land. To find this, in the Second Life viewer, go to World > About Land > Options. There’s a check box called Restricted Content under Land Options But when I go inworld and check that, there is no box called 'Restricted Content' I've looked in the Estate tools as well. Has anyone else seen anything inworld that relates to this verification business, or will we all need to download a new updated viewer when this comes into effect? -Atashi

I think a Linden mentioned, way-back-when, that resident verification would be shown where the the pay/no-pay status currently is and that parcel status would be going where the Mature setting currently is..
They may not have changed the viewer yet.. Do you have the new optional one?

I've already deleted the email, but my impression was that this was a beta test of the identity verification process, none of the inworld stuff has been rolled out yet. From what I've read it seems to have a few holes left in it, so hopefully they will be taking the results of the beta test and revamping the process before they roll it out.

I know they were actively working on it yesterday - I was unable to verify during the day, I called and spoke to someone at Linden Lab who verified that nobody from Canada could verify and there was some problem, but by last night it was fixed and I could verify. I'd say they are definately working on any problems with the verification system, but it seems like there'll have to be another viewer update (and maybe a mandatory download) to enable the 'restricted' setting on land and 'verified' flag in the profile.
There'll have to be something in the viewer at the very least, to keep unverified avatars off of restricted parcels, and if the code doesn't exist yet to flag a parcel restricted, then it's a good bet it also doesn't exist to keep unverified avies out.
Which does lead to another question - they're beta testing the 'verification process' now, are they going to have a beta test for the restricted content land settings, or just roll that live and see what happens? There's nothing in the new 'release candidate' notes about it, and the actual Beta viewer hasn't been updated in some time, it's older than the current release browser.

Enforcement is going to have to be on the server side. If it was in the client, we'd have a dozen versions (half with viruses that steal your password) with that chunk of code removed within hours..

Ah, good point. I wonder if they'll make the new banlines a different colour, or give them different wording, so that folks can tell if they're barred from a parcel due to verification, general banlines, or that they have been specifically individually banned.
We'd still need a new client though with those checkboxes Robin talked about in the land floater, otherwise we can't flag anything. And I'd think that a 'verified' flag would have to be added to the profile floater so it's visible when you check someone's profile.

/me nods, also expecting a client update. It might just that the current checkbox for 'mature' changes to have some other wording, though.
It could be that they're going to mute everything from restricted parcels for unverifieds - you don't see or hear anything coming from within one. Not sure how that'd work as must muting (I think) is done within the client..

Apparently we're getting some new tools so I'd imagine that the changes will be effective when they are introduced.

-Atashi That is a very good idea We could have : * red for bans on an individual * orange for bans by group * yellow for bans based on pay info status * dark blue for "you need to be in X group to access this land" * light blue for "you need to be in this avatar list to access this land" * white or black for bans based on age verification status * green for "pay for access" lines We could also have : * red for "you're banned" * orange for "your group/type is banned" * yellow for "you're not on the access list, or you have to pay to get in". I would think the second would be much simpler. Unfortunately, the second would require people having a descriptive error message pop-up when they try to enter a parcel they can't go in. The error would have to be specific enough that people could track down what the problem was. Until recently at least (I haven't checked lately) the error for no pay info on file accounts trying to go to pay-info-on-file-only land was "wrong access level". This was a completely unhelpful error I've complained about a few times, but it hasn't been fixed. It could be so much better, e.g. "You need to have payment info on file to visit this parcel, go to http://www.secondlife.com/account to put info on file for free. This information is NOT given to the landowner." I would say that the second option (red/orange/yellow) is better, except for the fact it relies on helpful error messages, and the current error given for similar payinfo-based permission errors is not helpful.

Last I remember, this option was added to the About Land/Options tab several updates ago... maybe that was First Look or something... but I seem to remember seeing the "adult" checkbox on that page. I think it was next to or below the option to list your parcel in search.

That's the 'mature' checkbox and it's been around for ages...a few updates ago they made it work for the land search function. But Robin specifically mentioned a 'Restricted Content' button, not a 'Mature' button.

Nothing in world? Get it right first

Geez...I'm from Canada and have tried about 273 different combinations of new, old, new-old, and old-new information and always fail verification. I have written parts of ID verification systems and know they go to great lengths to try to find a match. I am suprised that all of these combinations did not result a match. Maybe the Canadian computer is frozen or something I hope they find a solution during the beta. I wonder what happens when a non-verified land owner sets their parcel to restricted content...hmmmmm. -2fast

Not such a great idea for people who are colorblind (7% of the male population, iirc...)

Whether colours, text, or a combination thereof, it would be handy to know why you can't access a particular parcel. The buy pass one is already green and has different text. It's the other 'no entry' ones that could be spruced up a bit.
BUY PASS NO ENTRY (NOT ON ACCESS LIST) NO ENTRY (GROUP ACCESS ONLY) NO ENTRY (PAYMENT STATUS) NO ENTRY (RESTRICTED CONTENT) NO ENTRY (YOU'VE BEEN BANNINATED, SUCKAH!)
That sort of thing shouldn't be too hard to code into the client, and then folks would at least know why they can't get in. If those messages were coded in the client then they could also be localized so it would appear in whatever language a user was using, thereby not excluding the non-English users.

-Atashi I've always just selected the land I couldn't get into and looked at its settings to see why I couldn't get in.
