3D scanning services?

My father passed on having never realized a set of sculptures past the model stage.
We'd like very much to scan the models and recreate them in SL in "large scale". Anyone out there have any leads on scanning services and maybe hints of what to look for (or look out for)?

Currently, there's no way to import mesh into SL, other than sculpt maps, which have some pretty serious limitations.

It's been announced however that mesh import is coming.

As for 3d scanning services. . .can't help you with that. Tho, I remember seeing some apparently experimental techniques on instructables.com that looked promising.

Most traditional sculpture in SL is done by prim modeling, tho sculpted prims seem to be displacing much of that.
