Hey there

Ive been learning how to build for awhile now..im not the best as yet but i want to eventually get into selling houses. I just need some idea on how to do that.

The main problem im having at the moment is when i take my house into my inventory it comes up as no transfer. Even though in the edit window i have made that i can sell it. Is it anything to do with the textures im using? Im using freebie textures for the moment untill i get better. If it is to do with the textures then im stuffed because i cant make textures myself. I have photoshop but would no idea where to start in terms of making textures sighs.

Anyway if there is anyone else on this forum that has experience in selling houses it would be great to get some advice....

Thanks in advance
Anni :)

you probably have a no transfer texture (or script, if anything is scripted).

Every part of what you make to sell must be full perms to you. As well as prims, you need to check all textures, scripts etc.

Textures can be purchased full perms inworld for creators to use on sellable objects, you don't have to be able to use photoshop. Just make sure you are using full perm items in your builds.

Have you included any scripts for things like doors and lights? If so have you checked the properties on those? Are all the prims of your houses made by you, or did you use sculpts etc you purchased?

Yes all the prims were made by me. I will check the scripts because they are in the doors. Very frustrating..hopefully that is what is causing the problem...Thanks :)

Good luck finding it, it can be very frustrating. I have had situations where one script/pose/sound in a huge build has been set with wrong next owner permissions and can take ages to find the problem item.

A number of building supply makers have "builders packages" of transferable doors, windows, etc. Transferable items come in two flavors: copy and no copy. No copy items are fairly cheap, but you have to buy one for *each and every* final product you sell.

Copyable items are expensive, as you might expect, since the maker only expects to make a single sale to you, and you could (in theory) sell thousands of items containing that door or window. I like Paskis doors, for example, but their builders package is a little steep for me, considering my very low sales volume.

A lot of serious builders make their own scripts. You don't have to start from scratch. Look at some of the freebie scripts out there, and at the ones in the Script Library here in these forums. You may find one that does just what you need, or one that can do the job with just a few minor tweaks.

In my opinion your best bet would be to use door scripts in your own doors. Invest in something like Paskis or similar builders versions if you are going to be serious about selling your houses.

I have some freebie door scripts but not inworld at the moment, if you are only building to learn at present.

Door scripts are one of the easiest scripts to learn and understand how they work, however they all have their own idiosyncrasies and it's good for a house builder to understand these. Learning them can be frustrating, but it's important that you do, so even if that seems daunting spend some time trying to understand why doors sometimes work and why they don't.

These are pretty good - I use them in my builds.

Edited to add: you can edit the script to get rid of the annoying "announcement" whenever someone uses the door.

That is a decent set for sure. Since they are fully perm, the texture can also be modified to fit any style of house. I know a few people that would like these.

You mean the door rotates around its center, instead of a hinge line along the side?

There are several ways to solve this. One of the simplest is to make a thin "hinge" cylinder along one side of the door prim. Put the door script in the hinge prim and link the hinge and the door prims.

Or cut the prim in half along the rotating axis and you have a nice single prim door.

@Isablan & Lindal... Thanks for the link and/or suggestions. I keep looking for good door scripts, but I'm reluctant to buy without a recommendation. For $L1, I think I'll go for it, LOL! and keep Lindal's recommendation in mind for the future, if I really get into building for sale.

Join builder's groups, script groups, texture groups, those help a lot. Most people in those build or create in some way, shape or form.

There is also a builder's forum here.

I've been using this lately and, while a bit tricky, it works. I just adjust the actual size to whatever, keeping the path cut dimensions the same. Fiddle with it a bit and you will get the desired result.

The following was written by Cinderella Winkler. I use her script with it too but you might be able to use another, I don't know. If not, IM me (in world) for it. This was given to me and I was told it is a freebie full perm.

--

by Cinderella Winkler:

Here's a DIY course for making a one-prim-linkable-swinging-door

-Rezz a cube

Size
X 1.000
Y 0.050
Z 2.000

- Raise this cube so it's on top of the floor.
- Drag a copy from this cube horizontally (the red arrow).
> To drag a copy out of a prim, simply hold
your shift key while click-and-dragging on the (in this case) red arrow.

- edit the copied cube (you should have that one still selected)

Size
X 2.000
Y 0.050
Z 2.000

Path Cut begin/end
B 0.375
E 0.625

- Move this cube next to the other one.

- Now drag a copy horizontally from the first cube and move it next to the cube we did cut in half.

> Now we have three cubes aligned next to each other where the middle one is cut in half.

- Again edit the middle cube (the cut one) and drop the script inside it
- Be sure the script is running (open it and select 'Running')
- Link the three cubes but don't select the middle one as last (where you put the script in).
Otherwise it makes it a root-prim and will have the whole 'wall' acting as door.

- Thats it, click your door (the middle cube) and see how it *Swings* :)

=======================================================
+ What happend ?
> Because a doorscript will make a prim rotate at it's center we made it twice
as long as we needed and cut it in half. Now the actual center of the prim
is right at the end of whats left of the prim. So it's rotation is happening
where a normal doorhinge would be.

I would suggest also joining one of the big build groups like Builder's exchange - really great folks and are happy to help - the door thing i solved by slicing/cutting one box prim so the middle became the edge, then the door opened correctly - good luck :)

Hey there

once again thankyou for your help everyone..its been great. I havent been able to get online to get rid of the door with the script in it as yet. Once i do get rid of it hopefully the house will then be transferrable. All my textures are full perms so im hoping its the no transfer script in the door thats stopping my house from being full perm :)

I will try those builders groups to...so once again thankyou everyone :)

Most of my doors are transfer - even if not, like some of the earlier ones, typically you can just ask me for a transfer version after you bought a "retail" version. oh and I have a lot of really cool ones .. since you asked

Doors can be a tricky thing for new builders. I use opensource door scripts in my builds (there's a good GNU lockable door script that responds to owner voice commands and even maintains access lists). But knowing how the script is going to interact with the door, how it will rotate (or slide, in a few of my scripts), whether or not you can link it to the building, and so on. Thankfully, it's nothing a little trial and error can't fix.

I would strongly suggest learning to make your own doors. If you want something with lots of bells and whistles, this one is pretty good: http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=LibraryTimelessLinkedDoor

At the other end of the spectrum, /invalid_link.html is the simplest door/hinge script ever, and is the basis of just about every door I make (including some rather complicated ones).

Or, if you want to make a multi-prim door that's linked to the house, then this free kit will simplify your life considerably: https://uncensored.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=940629
