Hi all... last night and now this morning my inventory has gone from 5,200 items to 2,800. All shoes? gone. Skins? gone. The subfolders remain but there isn't anything in them. Anybody else having this problem???

I haven't. Try clearing your cache and rebooting. I hope it comes back. :-)

Repeat the cache clear/reboot several times if it doesn't immediately work. Also, if that still doesn't help, try deleting the SL Application Data folder.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Someone got this tip from a Linden, and it worked for me: After you clear the cache, reboot into a low-lag sim, such as Cyclops. Open your inventory and type a term in its search field. Refrain from doing anything else, such as IMing, changing clothes, etc. as your inventory loads.

I hope it all comes back, Shauna. If not, repeat this process. Good luck.

try deleting the SL Application Data folder.

In the Knowledge Base, it even suggest to do this once a month. I didn't know this was so important. When I did this yesterday, it cleared up some minor probs I was starting to see. I wonder if those who do lose inventory are regularly deleting the cache file. It may not be a cure for future inv losses, but it doesn't hurt to make it a habit.

Oh it's like taking vitamins. I prolly do it every day--just make a habit out of it.

Just to be a little more explicit about what to delete ... oh, and btw, you will have to reset your preferences afterwards:

In XP the folder is (delete the whole thing):
C:\Documents and Settings\<your userid>\Application Data\SecondLife

In Vista the folder is:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife

In a Mac OS,

* Second Life stores its cache files in the following location:
(your Home folder)/Library/Application Support/SecondLife -> Cache

Cache has a purpose - to reduce the load time of images that you see often - therefore I only clear it when I am having unusual SL weirdness (that being somewhat different than normal SL weirdness).

I have heard that some people have gotten major inventory losses restored via a Support Ticket, so if all else fails you can try that option.
