What should I do with this big empty skybox?

I didn't think I would ever have this problem. I wanted a skybox as a kind of home base - meaning a place to sort textures and tweak my avatar, change clothes, etc. So I put a posing stand in one secluded corner. Now it's the etc. part I'm having trouble with.

What do you fill your skybox or home up with? Mine just feels like this huge echoing space. Should I put up some panels and have art openings? But there's plenty of those already in SL. I could make the big empty middle part a dance floor, but again there are plenty of empty dance floors already. I could make it a workshop, but it seems too sleek and zen-like for that. It's in a PG sim so I don't think I can put a sex bed up or anything like that.

Maybe the sky box is too big for my needs and I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do with it before buying. It looked kind of modest on the package. Are there any interior designers I could hire in world who would have a go at it? Or better yet -- I've seen some web pages devoted to in world architecture. Are there any devoted to in wold interior design like some of the fashion blogs? I could get idesas that way.

Thanks.

How about an art exhibit? Paintings and sculptures. IM Rosie Castro. She has some amazing art that is now going into storage with the sale of Liome.

Make it nice and cozy. A fireplace with fluffy white rugs and lots of pillows thrown about.
A tray with drinks near by. Some candles near the rugs and pillows. You set it up nice and entertain who you want up there in private. Add nice soft R&B music and you're set.

Come and get a one prim, animated cat from me for a start, hehe - every home needs a puss.

*waves* look, I did a shameless plug and didn't apologise first - am I finally becoming a hard-headed business woman?

Nah, I'm not - I will be sending you a cat for free, Weston, as a Skybox Warming present. I am a crappy businesswoman, hehe.

Rotating ads, camper pads, and ban lines that don't reach up to the box?

I have a beautiful home and did not want to clutter my house up with another building so I use a skybox as my classroom. :)

It really does depend on what you want to do in SL.

When I had a skybox, inside I had a small sitting area with 3 chairs, and on the roof I had a garden with fountain, hammock, etc.

Nowadays, if I had a skybox (I assume you don't own the land?) I would put a workshop (including my posing stand) on the roof (even just add a flat platform sitting "on" the current roof, and put a cozy socializing space inside.

If you like to take fashion pictures, set up a photo studio.

If you like to play music inworld (there are a few interactive instruments), set up a recording studio.

You can try to see if you like having friends over for free with one of those pose rugs, or a set of sittable cushions, and a few candles, maybe a coffee machine. Maybe get an aquarium or whatever for atmosphere.

If you like games, you could get a pool table or "Truth or Dare", or darts, etc. for friends to mess with.

Your world - your imagination :)

What do you teach there? The mind practically boggles. (Send me a course catalog offline, OK?) :D

For the OP:

A nice big echoing empty space high in the sky? How about making it a hangar for some uber cool Mach 5 sky vehicle? Or for that matter, a funky chug-chug Victorian steampunk airship?

Or put bomb bay doors in the bottom. Add camping chairs to attract the bots. At intervals, open the bay doors and rain avatars on the populace below.

Put your own personal touch to it.
However you do that, make it Your Own.

If you need somewhere to relax, throw soft furnishings around, TV, maybe a radio, make it a place you can chill. Like wise if you need a place to take people back to.
If you need a place to build, turn it into a workshop.
Need a changing room? make it into a huge wardrobe theme or something lol.

Need all of these? section it off. use room dividers, or walls. create a workshop, wardrobe and chill-out space.

I have made mine into a home. it is all of the above, but mostly it is my home. The place I log in to. The place I go to when I need time to myself or with someone else. The place I can invite friends over to if I want.

Make it your space. put your personal touch in there. Somewhere you can be free and creative....or not. It's yours. You decide :)

Though I did LOL at the avatar bombings idea lol.

My skybox looks like a mountain stream. It has a small pond, rocks, trees, a campfire. I recently added a nice swing and a some loons in the water...and a poseball or two...
soooo many possibilities, so few available prims..

A live music venue!

Grungy place: black painted brickwork walls with few old and slightly tattered posters on them, little bar at one end, small stage, basic lighting, slightly claustrophobic kind of feel. Think the Cavern but grottier :-)

Wow- these are great ideas. I want to do them all. And I do like the idea of a cat hanging around.

I know I should have a skybox warming party but I'm slowwww in getting things done.

Thanks.

if only this could work. don't you have to actually be standing (not sitting on an object) and take a step in order to begin falling?

that would be fun to see. let's set it up at the hangout... photo op! :D

My skybox was two levels, Below were receiving rooms, quite comfortably Furnished, along with a bathroom, and boudoire. The Upper level was a complete Egyptian Palace Garden, complete with Pond, and waving palm Trees. All my Own Construction. A very nice place to relax in Private.

That sounds lovely!

I built a beach around mine skyhome. I made sculpted sand, and built a prim water ocean outside my front door with waves (purchased) and ocean sounds and tropical plants. I love it up there and it is a fun change of pace from the forest theme on the land below. *sigh* If only I had time to visit.

Great idea, except I'd have the bomb bay doors ready for my special cocktail reception for SL's most prestigious ad farmers.

Why not just drop the campbots on the ad farmers? That would be fun to watch....from a safe distance.

Won't work. They'd just slip off the leeches' slimy backs.
