Is it posible that many crashes are caused by a tiny clockwise turn?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just imagining it. But it seems to me that a disproportionate number of my crashes happen immediately after I make a tiny clockwise turn, just to adjust my position when talking to someone. Have others had this experience? Or perhaps other patterns that you've noticed?

It's because you don't KNEEL when you face us :D

I seem to remember Nicholaz fixing a similar problem a few months ago. Are either of you using his client?

Not sure about it ...

I try to turn my body when i think i'm crashed/freezed

Mostly with a crash/freeze of SL you still can turn your body; but you can't move.

So, is the crash than because of the turn or did i allready crashed??
I have no idea -)

I use the SL RC 1.18.6.0, (1.18.6.1 crashes madly for me), but the turning and then crashing happens less often right now, not to say it won't come back, oh a Mac user too.

That's not actually an SL crash, that's your client losing contact with SL's server, which you always have to log out to fix -- similar to a crash, but your client (the part of SL that runs on your machine) thinks everything is OK.

Nicholaz's client gives you an error dialog when this happens (Nick calls this redmapping, because the minimap turns red when the server goes away), so you don't have to guess. I don't think the regular client does this yet, not sure tho.

I haven't crashed from moving my camera around or moving my avi in a clockwise motion in a while, and yes, I used to crash from doing those. It hangs up on me now, for about 30 seconds (I think I'm crashing), but comes back anyway. My harddrive does a really bad grind as well, and it's usually whisper quiet, even when I'm working in PS, playing music and sitting in SL all at once.

*grumbles* I crash on TP's now though, so effing annoying.

But back on subject, I recently upgraded my machine (CPU and mem only) and so now, if I look around, it just hangs...so maybe that helped, I don't know for sure. Maybe my gfx card needs to be updated too for it not to hang (Not Responding msg). *Shrugs*

I hope they get it fixed though! Oh, off topic - Windlight is still bugged for me. Prims still disappear, and yes I have the new Windlight from the other day. Bleh, I want MY GLOW back!!!!

Hmm, I'm not a mac user, not using nicolas - straight PC (vista), latest verson downloaded, and it happens on more than one PC. I'm pretty sure its AFTER the turn not before. It's a very small turn, maybe only say 10 degrees. Of course this is not the only sort of crash, but it's the only one I've noticed a recurrent feature. (I did wonder about another recurrent sort of crash, after er a certain mispelling of 'come' as 'cum' but I'm SURE that's my imagination. Isn't it? The system can't be sensitive to spelling mistakes).

I freeze during turns.....usually to the East...so I'm thinking it's you guys across the pond .... nyaaaah~!! Hehe...just kidding....but I never crash...I just get the freeze up sometimes when I try and turn. Pain in the ass. I've been using windlight since they re-released it in Firstlook and it's been great......the turn/freeze issue has been happening to me for ages, even before WL.
Only time I crash now is when I'm mnetoring and I go to help Island.....after about an hour there with all the traffic....my puter just finally calls it quits. lol

Yes - seriously that happens to me and then my screen shuts down.
My SL partner think it doesn't matter what you have for a computer system - it is gonna freeze and lock up regardless. I have a top-of-line system and lag etc horrid on some days. But my crashes are always very elegant.

Lol, well, this is obviously due to your PC getting overheated in the excitement. Not LL's problem.

If you feel like it, you could try Nick's client to see if it fixes the problem - personally, I haven't seen it in ages, tho I did long ago. http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/

Mac versions available as well as PC. It's not Nick's complete invention, he takes LL's most recent sources and adds in his (as well as selected other 3rd party coders') bug fixes.

Who the hell turns clockwise???? And does is time after time again? Lets face it... the Lindens warnt you a few times by making you crash... but you wouldnt listen. Now you see what comes from it when you keep turning: the whole grid is down...

Cheers :-) Marcel

Ther's been an intermittent bug that causes a crash when you turn rapidly. It's like the server traffic chokes while suddenly getting info on a slew of new objects that just swung into camera view for you, and you get disconnected or otherwise crash. I've seen in most often in sims that have a lot of prims. It hardly ever happens in the new sims that I am just starting to build in.

Hi Jig - I'm sure it would be a completely unjustified use of the forums to say hallo just because we cant log on because of maintenance, so um I wont say say any such thing. Whoops, I just did. Smile Never mind - back to topic: I think this is very interesting - I hadn't thought that this is the sort of thing that WOULD make it useful to report crashes. But I never imagined that you should report stuff at that level of minute detail. But WHY should it happen? How can a tiny turn make such a difference? Does anybody know?
Edit - crossed posts. I just saw Ceera's explanation. Thanks :). But what should we do about it?

You know this sounds suspiciously like a 'video error'. Much like the problem we had a long time ago when you would turn to face a shiny object at certain directions and the skiny would go 'White'.

I also know for a fact that recently with windlight if NVidia drivers aren't upated, Windows will go into a 'stop error' Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078), in other words your computer will loop into restart mode, until the issue is resolved.
