I ask this, as when I ordered my OpenSpace sim last night, I was in Support Chat mode with Leo Linden, and when I asked if I could order the OpenSpace sim Havok 4 enabled he said he was not sure that LL was extending Havok 4 to OpenSpace sims, and the answer was probably not, but he said I could ask on the comment part of the ticket.
Anyone got any info on this, it seemed to me that Leo was not 100% sure.

i'm guessing it's a no thats an old PR trick. the first person who has to tell you bad news tells you from an unsure angle so that when you do get the definative no your not as upset in theroy

I've had a ticket open for 2 weeks now asking one of my openspace sims be added to the havoc4 early adopters program. No Linden has commented or acted on the ticket, it's been 'new' the whole time. I asked in live chat about it and I was told that they do not have any more 'slots' for the havoc4 early adopters program. They said they were going to ask sidewinder if more 'slots' would be added. I then questioned sidewinder in last weeks h4 blog, and he kind of nonanswered... but I do feel I'm getting the runaround. Sidewinder says that the process of adding regions to the early adopter program is a concierge thing, and concierge seems to be telling me they can't do it till Sidewinder / the h4 team adds more slots.

Well, eventually everything will be Havok 4, right? I mean, once they're finished with testing, and they're positive that Havok 4 is working properly, what possible logic would there be in continuing to use Havok 1 for anything at all?
So, while you might not be able to put your new sims, OpenSpace or otherwise, into the early adopter's program, they will get there eventually, along with the rest of the grid.

Yeah that's true Chosen - that's part of the reason I'm not too flustered about the lack of a definitive answer from them re. the early adopter thing. If havoc4 is almost finished then we'll all get it soon anyways - openspace or not.
The most recent h4 blog referred to it as RC0; if it's in the 'release candidate' stage then (touch wood) it might be ready for a gridwide roll out very soon.

dumb question that shows up weak points, and not a threat:
Shall I speed up havoc4 implementation by crashing ANY non Havoc-4 sim by doing something as simple as; copying a non-scripted phys (temp) object-linkset in-world ONCE (and not via script) ?
2 moseclicks after finding it in inventory can kill any non.havoc-4 region now, and its no script involved, simple as that.

Uh, gee, lemme think. After careful consideration, I'm gonna have to vote no on that one. Thanks for supplying griefers with that information though. I'm sure they'll appreciate the heads up.

According to the blog, Havok4 is at first-release candidate status now...so appearing grid-wide in the relatively near future.

One of my Open Space SIMs is part of the Havok4 test project, so it is possible. Not sure if they still accept new SIMs to the test, though.

Im new so forgive me if this has been explained before.... how come they are useing Havok 4 when the Havok 5 engine has been around since 2007 ..... and they just released 5.5 ...
Isn't that like shopping for a new car and ending up buying a brand new 2005 malibu?

What is the status on Mono, anybody? Am I the only one thinking that SL 2.0 is the convergence of Windlight, Havok4 and Mono all functioning?

I've got a few openspace regions in the Havok 4 early adopter program. Get 'em, then apply through the support portal once they land - it's prolly all good - at worst, you'll get it when they roll it out for the whole grid.

Probably because it's not just a drag & drop to make sims happy with new versions of Havok - it seems like it's been a ton of work for LL. Hopefully, Sidewinder & Co have done things so that it will be easier to do next time. That or maybe the license fees are less with the older versions - we're talking about close to 20k copies of Havok here...

From what I have gathered in the blog and wiki, a lot of it has to do with the process of upgrading.
The upgrade path from h1 to h4 has been a long and difficult task. They have indicated that upgrading in the future from havoc4 to havocwhatever will be a much easier process.
This is not unheard of with software; and with something as integrated as physics, it isn't really a surprise.
