Okay..perhaps dumb question here but since I've never attempted to put anything in the sky....I don't know. lol

I'm looking at putting a sky box warehouse type studio above my land..... I've found some buildings that I love but I don't know about rezzing them 250 meters up, because they are not labeled as skybox. Is there a trick to putting a build in the sky that I need to know?

Hi,

One way of doing it would be to rez a platform on the ground, sit on it, raise it to 250 metres and plant your house on it.

There's also a rezzable building platform (freebie) at the Sirena store that you can use, once you rez the box on the ground and sit on it, it automatically takes you to 300m and rezzes a platform for you.

Good luck :)

just rez the box on your land, making sure it fits withing the property lines. Then you just need to edit the object and set the Z coordinate to the height you want.

If you can sit on the box before you move it up then you will go up with it. Otherwise you may need a flight assist to reach it.

u can make a platform at ground level to match land size and then enter manually the high in the Z axis cordinate (like 700)

create a box, sit on it and set it to 705meters so u can jump off it and land on the platform u just made, from there it`s as if u were on the ground and the platform show the land dimentions to work at

u can use a flight assist or LM to get back up there or some land border tools but the platform at ground hight to show land borders is the easiest and less expensive way :)

Lots of people set their skybox-to-be on the ground first, which helps them align it with property lines, then "grab" it (highlight the whole structure in edit mode) and, under the Object tab, manually set the Z-coordinate (the blue one) to the altitude they want.

At 250m you may find clouds drifting through, it gets kind of damp and chilly, so you probably want to be at least 300m. ;)

Milla, you may actually want to go a bit higher than that. Generally somewhere between 600 and 700 meters should be good enough to ensure privacy. :)

Skyboxes use several technologies to overcome SL's gravitation...

1. Balloons. Anything from little kids' helium balloons to a big Montgolfier bag will do, just make sure the lift is balanced.

2. Rockets. One on each corner, or a big engine in the middle. Issue earplugs to all visitors.

3. Propellors. I visited an amazing skybox build last night that was several large circular platforms connected by walkways. The platforms looked like they were mounted on top of counter-rotating ceiling fans. Use caution when flying up from below!

4. Antigravity. Instead of a rocket, your lift device emits a soothing, satisfying blue glow. Silent and efficient. But pay your electric bill.

5. Faith. A lot of skyboxes just sit there in the air, unsupported by anything except belief. Tip: Hire a resident priest, or attract acolytes with camping chairs.

6. Beanstalk tower. This is the "Bikcin Method"...believable, but takes an unbelievable amount of prims. For best results, the tower should be hollow with a circular staircase. You can put in a teleporter, but disguise it as a fruit machine.

[EDIT: We should do this at the Hangout. Make the Ginko Slot Machine a teleporter to the Changing Room.]

7. Elephants and turtles. They hold up the world, why shouldn't they support your skybox?

I hope this helps you rise to new heights.

You forgot thousands of hummingbirds tied to each corner, several thousand miles of thin gold chain tied to a spike driven into the moon, pixie dust, giant electromagnets, one on the ground and one on the bottom of the skybox, and a really big block and tackle.

/me shrugs.
What with getting kidnapped and forcibly married by kangaroo Evil Overlords, rescued by biplane pilots (I use the term loosely) and biting off a half sim to develop, a girl just doesn't have the time to keep up with the latest technological advances.

/me blinks.
...block and tackle? What holds up the upper pulley?

You could stack a thousand alts on top of eachother and support the skybox on them...

[Edit: Sorry, probably more like 500 alts, since most avis are over 1 meter tall. ;) ]

Remember that movie about the Apollo moon flight that almsot ended in disaster? Remember how they had duct tape? Remember how they went around the moon before heading back to Earth? Remember how big and solid the moon was?

Well, there ya go.

Oh, *I* get it! They duct tape the block and tackle to the spike driven into the Moon for the fine gold chains!!

D'Oh!

'Scuse me, I have to go out and blow hard into my car's exhaust pipe to pop out the body dents.

You could try bulding your sky box and they dropping the level of the ground under it by several hundred metres ..............
