I was at Gov. Linden's mansion and noticed the time capsule.

Anybody know what might be in it?

You can sort of check, if I recall correctly. At least examine it. Believe me, nothing to be too especially proud of in there :)

Very, very much a product of its time.

The last QA manager. One naturally puts in a time capsule what one doesn't intend on using for years and years.

It's a pretty distorted font on it, but it reads "Don't Open Till June 2004" -- as to what's in it? Right click > edit. Quite of number of items, mostly photos.

I'm a spoil sport, ain't I?

Oh, and here's an old, old link about it:

http://secondlife.com/newsletter/2003_07_09_archive.php#3

From: Second Opinion, Volume 1, Number 8
Out of sight, out of mind? Not for the residents who contributed more than 225 objects, outfits and snapshots to the Second Life Beta Time Capsule. Created as a way to memorialize the Beta period, the SL Time Capsule was buried deep underground, where it will hibernate for a year before being unearthed in June of 2004. The submersion ceremony took place at the Governor's Mansion on June 22nd, where many residents gathered to take one last look at the steel capsule as Hunter Linden sealed it tight.

What's in the time capsule? Well, there's no truth to the rumor that Peter Linden entombed two misbehaving residents, but the true contents must remain a secret. However, as a sneak peek, we can reveal the goodies include a resident snapshot from the first hour of Beta, some of the best handcrafted furniture Second Life has to offer, an ominous note card warning folks not to open it, and one object simply labeled "meat," which is likely to be quite stinky a year from now.

Join us in June 2004 for the unearthing of the Time Capsule and a chronicling of its contents.

Maybe it has the old attachments containng the pictorial history of the beginning of SL and the early users that were removed from the forum, the original size, non-blurred versions of our in-world snapshots, and the old scripting forum.

Maybe not.

I think that's a bummer because it would take away the market for retro and/or antique SL items. I have bought some items on SL thinking that they would appreciate in value, but then I realized they might not transfer in the future and that's a bummer!

an FYI A true antique has to be 100 or more years old to be a true antique, a semi antique 50 or more. Retro/vintage varies, but true vintage for vintage collectors is usually something near at least 30 years old. Retro refers more to the era. Just stating an FYI because a lot of people call things antiques which are not antiques.

Well way technology works in 1000 years the technology will be so advance if SL is still around nothing in capsule would rezz it would be like trying to open a file from a disk made for comodore 64 with cd player with current computer technology.
If it rezzed they would have to program some technology to rezz it by then hopefully it won't crash the sim in 3004 or show up in the freebie resell market.

I would bet the whole of my inventory and L$ balance that the time capsule won't survive until 3004 and therefore will not be opened.

Or, if it is found, the person opening it will say 'Yer, otapsin, k'u tiw ma wha dis ting-yer is?'
(that's is the form of English that will be spoken in 1000 years' time)
Otapsin = Other person, you-over-there, etc.

I'll go with "Inventory Not Found."

Although it could also hold LL's missing communication with residents system.
