Ok ever since last Wednesday when SL did their Rolling whatever, I spend more time crashing then actually playing the game. It actully freezes up my whole computer. I cant stay on longer then about 10 minutes or so. Occasionally I can stay on for hours and that is like a godsend...LOL I HAVE done the usual, cleared cache, uninstalled, reinstalled SL, and went as far as doing a fresh install of Windows XP (yes I am that hooked). Its STILL DOING IT!!!!
Now does ANYONE know what is going on??? It is even crashing and freezing up my computer when I am not on SL. When I uninstall the game, my computer works fine. I have come to the website and ran the thing that checks your system to see if my computer is able to run SL and it is above the minimum requirements.
OK NOW WHAT???!?!?!?!?!?!??!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I can feel your pain Misti, but thats the aggravations one must accept when we are at the tip of the bleeding edge of web technology. One suggestion is the go into Edit > Preference > Graphics setting and start from low and gradually work your way up.

Sorry I didnt put that, but I have already lowered everything possible that I could. That didnt help either. ARGH...But thanks so much.

Misti, are you running the standard version or the Released Candidate's? Switching to compare performance might help .

((It is even crashing and freezing up my computer when I am not on SL.)) What does your statement mean? Is it just SL crashed or Windows as well? Do you run more than one main program (SL) and open multiple files at the same time? Try terminating all other non essential programs and files to monitor.

Misti, ths suggestion is time consuming, but in your case i think it might fix your mess. remove SL from your computer COMPLETELY. Defrag! then reinstall. that should do it. i have lived your nightmare. i have to defrag often, and sometimes it requires a clean sweep of SL as well. annoying, time consuming, but works. i wish i could be more helpful.

Then when I reboot it freezes up as well a few times. I have to keep rebootin the computer. IDK I did all i can do. I have reinstalled, defragged, everything imaginable. Updated all my drivers for my video card etc. I guess it looks like I am just gonna have to quit SL. I have been doing everything in my power for 3 days now. I just did everything that people on this and my other post under Tech help have suggested and went on SL...I lasted a whole 45 mins, the FREEZE and the whole puter froze up... Oh well...I guess I wait til i can get another puter...Dam shame...I was in a clan learning how to use the DCS system.. DOing pretty well too

Misti, please do not despair and throw in the towel yet I have it that you are very certain SL was running without a hitch before last wednesday 's server update and rolling restart and up to that point you have not altered anything else on the computer. Also at the present stage, that your computer goes back to working properly once SL has been removed completely. we need to have these facts established first before going further.

SL is a very graphic intensive program particularly with improperly set graphic card.So based on the insofar information provided, the most likely culprit could be an overstressed or overheated graphic card which intermittently pulls down the supply voltage, resulting in the freeze/crashes.

I think you almost got the advice right 3Ring From: 3Ring Binder Misti, ths suggestion is time consuming, but in your case i think it might fix your mess. remove SL from your computer COMPLETELY. Defrag! then *DON'T* reinstall... ...that should do it. After that you won't crash in SL at all. Pep (It works fine on *MY* computer)

From: Misti Demonia Ok it freezes the entire computer up. Then when I reboot it freezes up as well a few times. I have to keep rebootin the computer. ... This is the part that we really need to understand. Is it really the case that, after running SL, even just rebooting the computer--*not* trying to run SL at all, *just* rebooting--can lead to a freeze that requires a reboot? If that's the situation, then the problem space is greatly constrained. My hunch would be that the graphics drivers, though updated, have some seriously incompatible setting in the control panel. But it's definitely not an SL problem, per se: SL is just triggering something very wrong with the client machine itself--you just haven't yet come across another application that triggers the same fault. That's what makes me suspect the OpenGL settings in that graphics card control panel--but it could be something else that persists across more than one reboot. (My next hunch would be all about networks and routers and firewalls and crap like that, but I know I jump to the network theory a little too quickly sometimes.)

Misti,
Can we get some computer specs please so that we know what you are using?
cpu graphics card memory
those 3 should be enough to help you further
-start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system information
-->your cpu will be listed there (processor) as well as your memory(Total physical Memory I believe)
-->then select components and display for your graphics card (adapter type or adapter description)
