Hey all. I was in the middle of building something and I sent a piece 700 something feet in the sky. I flew up there to get it,it was there. But it wouldn't let me take it. Then all the sudden it just poofed. Now I can't find it at all. I really need that piece(no copy). What can I do? It's not in my inventory. I double checked. Any ideas?

This reminds me of most mornings when I search for my keys.....except for the flying through the air part.

Last night I tried to rez my pet giraffe on my platform at 700 m, and there was some kind of error that left the giraffe (which I first thought was lost completely) whizzing through the air, traveling straight up and down between ground level and about 300m, faster than I could possibly catch it. It was the darndest thing I'd ever seen. Fortunately for me, I was wearing the wrong group tag at the time (never thought I'd be happy for making that stupid error), and consequently the giraffe auto-returned to my inventory after about 10 minutes.
I am afraid to try again.

One thing I do is to have all prims on the parcel set to group and then when I start building I'll take off my group tag. When I'm done and after everything is linked up, I'll set the item to the group and then check "About Land". If there are any prims left that aren't set to group that means I either forgot to link one/several prims, or I have one/several prims up in the sky/stuck inside a wall/floor/etc which I can easily get rid of just by returning all non-group set prims . You generally do need auto-return turned off then, but disabling create objects and object entry for all residents will keep other people from rezzing (in the case of group-owned land those settings will still let you rez items under a different group depending on your group privileges). --- An easier way would be to turn off "Limit select distance" (from memory, may not be exact) in which case the prim you send flying off tends to still be selected and you can reenter whichever coordinate you got wrong to bring it back to you without having to go hunt for it .

Well, now I am out of prims and I'm sure it's the lost piece's fault.
