Hello everyone. I am a new resident in SL and one of the reasons why it has caught my interest is that apparently it is a good place for role-play. However, my main problem is that I have completely no clue how does it work here, where to start, and what things are required for it. I am not new to the concept of role-play in general as I have done plenty of it in online games before, but I do not know anything that is specific to SL.
So my questions are following. Are there any good resources or starting places to learn more about role-play in SL? What would I need to have to engage in role-play in SL? Could you recommend any good sims for role-play? (I am generally open about the setting, though cyberpunk, various fantasy, and post-apocalyptic are my favorites). Any other tips regarding the topic are also appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

From: Mellina Kabila (I am generally open about the setting, though cyberpunk, various fantasy, and post-apocalyptic are my favorites) Search these themes in world, go there, meet people, talk and learn, it's the best way to go forward. You could spend time at a few places, as a guest/visitor (some have free huds, so you can mark your self as such) see how active they are at the time you'll generally be on, this is obviously important to role playing.

Try http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Roleplay for starters That points to a short selection of *some* of the sims. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mentor_Resource-Fantasy_and_Roleplay_simsUse Search to find the types of RP that interest you. Visit sims. They vary tremendously even within the same RP type.

Some Role Play sims do offer classes in RP. I think Ravenscraig is one such (although that is a Medieval/Fantasy place). Also, I've found that most RP sims I have visited have free "starter kits" at the main landing point.

You could check out the ROPE (Roleplay for Everyone) program offered by Forceme Silverspar, currently running in many sims. Also forcemesilverspar.blogspot.com

1. Find a Xena: Warrior Princess outfit
2. Search for GOR in places and teleport to the busiest one you find.
3. Walk up to the first male avatar you see.
4. Say "Hey, b*tch, lick my boots."
You'll be in some serious roleplay in no time, promise.

Tol Daennon has medieval fantasy role play. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sharindlar/128/128/2We offer a RP 101 class. Coming from a background of many years of RL RP and a year of SL RP, I find the balance to be right for me. The RP is not obsessive, as it is in some sims. It is optional in many activities and nobody gets in your face if you don't do it perfectly. We offer a wide variety of classes on various topics. As a "professional student" in RL, I would say that they are consistently outstanding. Contact me or my partner Sylvan Shilling inworld for more info. I have not done post-apoc. A dear friend, who is very into that, likes the Wasteland best.

One of the first things you need to do is decide what area interests you for your role play. There are plenty of fantasy RP sims. Urban. Gor. And Sci-Fi sims based on TV shows, for instance. I can name atleast five Battlestar Galactica sims. All of which are right now starting a new storyline. I am pretty active with BSG21, for instance. http://slurl.com/secondlife/BSG21/128/128/2When I started there last April I hadn't ever RPed before. I was taken under the wings of some of the players already there, and went from there. You have to enjoy what the RP is about, and the rest falls into place.
