Does anyone know when this will be available? I see it is in some regions but not grid wide yet. After asking multiple groups in-world, no one seems to know.

What is the status?

Thanks!

The second half of the rolling restart was re-rescheduled for 8 tonight, about 20 minutes from now. It was originally going to be 6AM, then 6PM, so I hope the grid remains calm so it doesn't have to get bumped again :/

I can't wait.

I have a dynamic address system I have been working on for awhile. It's done quite well through beta.

It's all in php, with mysql for storage, capable of running on pretty much any free webhosting service.

As well as a drop in script and linkmessage api for any object in world.

Wow, after all the fear of people having their IPs exposed, this is now the easiest way.

Should LL remove support for getting the remote IP?

Meh, every other web server records that, and it's useful. It would be goofy to nerf it in SL when any other web service can be used.

The only use I can see for it is authentication, and I think I'd prefer client certificates for that. Web servers collect IP addresses for various reasons such as spam blocking and traffic analysis, things that I wouldn't expect an LSL object to handle.

Of course, I'd still expect LL to collect and record the data. The question is whether it needs to be available to a script. Perhaps I just need to spend more time thinking about possibilities, but if someone else has thought about some uses, I'd love to hear about them.

Personally I don't think so as people already shouldn't be as afraid about their IP as many are. There are many situations in which it would be useful for authentication to a single connection.

But isn't it against the ToS for us to use this information for anyone but ourselves? Else aren't we exposing their RL info like location?
