I am having severe issues with SL freezing up my PC. I am running the following on my PC.

Windows Vista Business—32 bit
Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz
4.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
Windows Vista Business—32 bit
Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz
4.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS

I bought a Macbook back in October and it does not seem to have the freezing up issue.

MacBook OS X
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
4.0 GB Ram
NVIDIA Geforce 9400M

My current desktop is great for everything other than SL. I can hardly stand using SL on the PC and the Macbook is just too small to build with efficiently. I know there are issues with Nvidia and SL and no clue if it will be fixed anytime soon. I have been dealing with this issue since late July...never had an issue with this before. What I need to know from you good folks is...should I upgrade my PC to an iMac? Any IMac users having issues with the freezing issue?

I have the opportunity in the next few months to purchase a new desktop
iMac
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
4 GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS

Any advice would be most helpful.

Happy New Year to one and all.

My wife is using an iMac similar to what you described and SL runs great with no freezes and no crashes. Her graphics preferences are on High and she averages 24-30 fps in our home sim. The 24" screen is great! I am on a G5 quad with 4 gigs ram and ATI Radeon x1900 card. I get similar performance but my settings are on Ultra. Things do slow down a when my draw distance is >200.

*mutters* Can't get past 64 meters on the PC then it freezes/doesn't respond. I am sure i could replace the graphics card to an non-nvidia on the PC, but liking the flexibility of running the Mac & windows all on one machine. Thanks for the info.
