Hi, none of the animations i've aquired since i began SL are available for use in the "New Gesture" dialogue box. I've been told that all available animations should appear in the dropdown for selecting the animation, but only the generic ones seem to be available. can anybody point me in the right direction?

AFAIK, only animations with full permissions can be used in gestures. Most of the animations sold in SL are not sold with full permissions.

troilus, contact the maker of the animation you want to gesture-ize.
i've done that on more than one ocassion. they have been more than happy to supply me with a gesture.

good deal. thanks guys. i was starting to think permissions might have something to do with it, but IMO, and i am really new, it seems dumb not to be able to incorporate an animation that you can already perform into a gesture. could this be because then it becomes an entirely new item (gesture) with a new set of permissions that i could pass off as my own?
Anyway, thanks for all the help. i guess i'll just have to look into creating my own animations, which i was hoping not to get sucked into so soon.

Hi Troilus, welcome to the forums! Do you have an alt named Cressida? *sorry*
Couple of things: I don't know if you noticed it, but the large number of fairly decent animations in your library folder don't show up either - you have to copy them up to the animations folder in order to use them in a gesture. You might look at them.
Also, there are a ton of free full-perm animations in SL. I just finished deleting 200 of them from my main AV's inventory! They vary widely in quality, and come in more-or-less unsorted boxes that also contain simple poses mixed in. You can either use them directly (as I've noticed some gestures sellers do, lol), or at least use the poses as starters. I know there are good numbers of freebies at NCI, huge numbers at M&P (used to be on the 2nd and 3rd floors), and a small number of free ones at Vista. I'm sure there are lots elsewhere too. Oh, Deelicious also had a box of animations.
