Have you heard of this? The website allows you to use SL without the graphics. Uses Google Maps so you can TP around SL, you can chat, IM, even check inventory...

supposedly...

I logged in to try it. there was long lag when I tried to IM a friend. He DID see it, but we were not able to have a conversation. I'll talk to him when I get in-world later to see what his experience was like on his end.

But have you tried it? Does it work for you?

Does this involve logging in through some third-party web site? Giving them your password, and therefore full access to your account, your L$ balance, and your credit card or paypal?

I tested it with a disposable alt account ... I was able to log in, but as that account has no friends (other than me) there wasn't much else I could do. I could move around the map via TP but there was nobody around me wherever I went. I can't believe the sims were all empty.

I won't try this with my real account ... don't want to provide some random server with my login credentials.

MEH…just tried it.
You should try Sleek. It allows you to do searches and view profiles as well as chat, IM, TP and view Inventory.

sleek is pretty cool, but a bit buggy

its usefull for when you wanna just log in an chat with friends in IM without SL using 110% of your cpu

The password reset tool (http://secondlife.com/password) has been having intermittent failures the last two days. In some cases, the tool will send you the confirmation email and allow you to answer your security question, but then it re-directs you back to the Second Life homepage.

I like the feature where you can type any group and if its open enrollment you can click and be added to the group. I hope someone can use this technology to make joining groups a one click feature soon.
