Greetings everyone :-)

I have installed Quick time, as well as Quick time lite. I have tried everything, friends have told me what to do in "Preferences", I have tried everything.

But yet, When I try to watch a tv in-world... it will not work. The tv does not play anything I have chosen... it stays black, or on the main screen.

Could anyone please help me with this?.

Thank you.
Best regards.

Do others see movies where you cannot see them? Does the tv work for others?

That answer will tell you if it is your system or the tv that might cause the problem.

Some system information couldn't hurt. What OS, brand and model of computer, service pack level, amount of ram, type of video card, etc.

Are you able to view QT videos outside of SL?

Do you have both QT and QT lite installed at the same time?

Is QT lite the same thing as QT alternative?

What version of Second Life? (the version number, not an ambiguous phrase like "the latest";)

Did it ever work?

Does the music player work?

Have you tried it in more than one sim?

Usually that happens because the Tv is on group land. Most do not work well on group land.

Sometimes if you change part of the script it will help but I don't know what, or how.

sometimes it could be something as simple as:

have you turned it on on your viewer? (lower right hand side)

wow.. your all really great, and I thank all of you.. it's really much appreciated.

As for the QT, and QT lite.. no, I tried with QT lite, uninstalled it and then tried QT. My viewer is on.. yes, and still the tv wont work. It works for other people, even when not in a group.

basically.. is there anything I could install or download, to make this work. IF you guys know... Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks again
Best regards.

Again, have you hit the little "Play" button next to the icon of a video camera in the lower right hand side of your SL viewer screen? It's in the row with the Video camera and the musical note (which is the radio stream). You have to click on it after you select the TV station or movie, if I recall. The TV should at least change color. Also in your Edit->Preferences there are video streaming options that have to be clicked on. Have you enabled all that?

Make sure the settings in About Land are set to Movie and not Web Page.

yes, it's been clicked, and played. The tv changes to Grey for a second, and then just goes back to normal, not playing anything I have chosen

Have you tried watching a TV or a video on another SIM?

In preferences do you have the following checked?

1. Play streaming video when available

2. Automatically play video

If so, uncheck "automatically play video", you're just asking to be web-stalked. :(

As far as I know you don't need a special Quicktime version.
The latest free quicktime version from
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/#
should work just fine.

Edited to change the link as Argent suggested.

You need a "?" in the link for the IMG trick to work. Fixed in above quote.

turns out it was because i was using Opera as my default web browser
as soon as i make explorer my default, everything worked

I had to install QT Pro before it would work.

You might also check your firewall settings - I think the stream sends its own signal separate from SL. Not sure, though. I wish I were more tech minded. I could help you more.

I think this may be the new QuickTime scam. Mine does the same thing with Vista. Vista closes it and I only saw a portion of one film since I upgraded to Vista from XP. So I guess I have to shell out a few bucks for Quicktime pro.

Your computer is having a hard time reaching the links to the films, from Second Life for wahtever reason.

Try copying and pasting these URLs (pick any) into the media player instead.

Those are from America Free tv and it's the site most SL televisions go to. But you can feed it into your land tab. It worked for me when nothing else worked.

Also - maybe redundant, but -

Make sure the drop down menu is Movie and that the texture matches your tv and the media tab in your land.

Tony - Make sure the tv is deeded to the group or it won't work at all.

Also make sure it's a 'free tv' that will use America Free TV links (which is what those are) as opposed to a youtube tv or a metaverse (SL stations) tv.

Then, if it is a free tv, copy and paste one of the links into the 'media' tab, and choose 'movie' and make sure the texture in that tab is the same as the texture on the tv. Make sure you hit ok, and set, and whatever else you need to do when copy/pasting in the link (edit/copy here from your browser, click, and edit/paste within the SL viewer, media/movie tab.)

Make sure you wear your group tag while trying to use the tv if it is on group land.

Your landlord/land owner might need to place the tv, that may or may not make a difference.

You gave no information (like what you have tried, what type of tv, do you own the land, etc.), but I tried to help with anything that I could think of, Tony.

What type of video are you trying to watch? Now that there are PG, Mature and Adult clssifications of everything else, you may not be Age or Account Verified to the appropriate level to watch movies with alcohol in which would render them Mature, rather than PG, or (landsakes) movies including extreme violence which would render them Adult.

Pep (Wouldn't this be a valid - and possibly more justifiable - extension of LL's Nanny State?)

At least publicly. I've thought about that too Pep.

For instance those youtube cafes. If they are on PG land and someone orders up a semi-porn video...oops!
