People talking to other people (minor rant)

So, everywhere I have lived, if I had an issue that needed to be resolved I've contacted the person and politely sorted it out, making some friends along the way.

Yesterday, I had an IM from Guy Linden (and OMG I didn't even know Guy was still there after all this time). I had an assembly which unbeknownst to me, with my crashy laggy borked-up SL connection had encroached onto someone else's place (they are in the sky) Item was returned (albeit very apologetically, it's clear to see from the rest of the landscaping that I am trying to sort out things without causing offence to my neighbours, and encouraging me to reset it out but in a different place).

However, I have not been approached even once about it - this was a rock made from a megaprim sculpty which had a section underground and sticking out, I assume, but would not have been counting on their prim count OR impeding in any way as they are in the air. If I had, I'd have apologised immediately and shifted it right away.

I do remember when, and this was when I was Concierge - we had griefers and harrassment AND encroachment making complaint after complaint which was ignored - reasonable attempts to talk to the person concerned were pointless and in the end it was only when my neighbour grabbed a passing Linden that it was removed (and quickly).

I dunno why this has ticked me off so much, other than wondering if the level of intercommunication has dropped - or quite possibly my neighbour is a friend of someone who has a direct access.

Interestingly, this follows a nice present from persons unknown onto the lot next door ... nothing like getting cozy and having Hitler float past you. Once I'd stopped laughing I just turned off particles of course.

Some people, as we know, are just assholes.

Who the hell knows? I would have had the same "WTF" reaction. I've sure written about my share of neighbor issues here, things I tried hard to resolve nicely and couldn't. And I've also luckily in my new place, had issues that were able to be taken care of in a pleasant way (although to this date no friends have been made, but that's fine by me).

There is something about SL that does not make good neighbors, I've come to that conclusion. People tend to fly off the handle way too quickly for the most part, jumping to ridiculous conclusions. Rationality goes clear out the window. It's like this grandiose mindset happens and people think because they can create their world, that they can create as much drama as they care to also. It's the only thing I can come up with.

I've let it chew at me plenty also and finally let these things roll of my back. While we've never met, I think through these posts I have come to know you well enough to know you pretty much do the same eventually. Just a rant, a piss-off and then, meh, what can you do

Hey, they are the crazy ones, you know it, not you.

/me hopes some of that made sense - I'm working on only about 5 hours sleep today hehe

I like to think that they behave that way in SL because if they tried it with their RL neighbours, they might be on the receiving end of a well-deserved smack on the nose ;)

This reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite books.

The book: "The Cat and the Curmudgeon" (Sequel to "The Cat Who Came for Christmas";)

The book (a true story) is about a stray cat found in a NYC alley one cold Christmas Eve by Cleveland Amory - a noted author, humorist and columnist - and the relationship that developed between them. The cat, Polar Bear, had some interesting observations on life. This is one of my favorite:

"He (Polar Bear) had already met everyone he wanted to meet, and in fact he would have dearly liked to subtract some of these."

I'm starting to get that way in SL.

I need to start hanging around here more often. Floating Hitlers, girls taking off their skirts ... what's not to like?

Cherry people don't talk, you're right. When the 16M neighbours arrived I asked them if they could kindly turn off the ban lines, because you know, there's absoultely no need for them. However they didn't want to talk. So I put out trees, a lot of trees.

They didn't bother asking me to move them for encroachment, they just got Socrates to return them and issue me with a warning, so now instead of trees I have giant screens, which definitely aren't encroaching.

Still no contact from the lovely neighbours.
