Referral Bonus years later

So I've logged in one of my verified alts to ask this question since I'm not interested in having any money taken out of my main's account, but here is the situation:

My main account joined in 2004 and at that time referred a LOT of people to SL. I didn't keep track of who I actually got referral bonuses from, but I do know I made almost $L40K from referrals in the first 6 months or so that I actively was referring people (it dropped off fast because I'd run out of people I knew who were interested at all in SL). One person I DO know I got a referral bonus for certain is my partner here.

So the thing is, I have started getting referral bonuses for people I referred more then 3 years ago. The first one was my partner, who also joined in 2004 and became premium with land that same year. Over two months I got first $L500, then another $L500 a month later, then $L1000 at the end of that cycle. I let it go with a giggle thinking LL had just messed something up and thanks for the spare change.

Now its happened again with another person whom I know joined in 2004, who I know became premium a few months after joining so she could buy land. I am fairly sure I already received my referral bonus for her as well, but it has been more then 3 years ago.

Both people are still active in SL. I know there were a couple of dozen people I referred between the two of them, but most of those people have since left SL. I can only think of perhaps 6 or so people who I had referred who are still present on the search results.

So, being the sort of honest (yes, only sort of )person I try to be, my question here is two-fold:

A) Has this ever happened to anyone else?

B) Would YOU file a jira issue or just keep the money?

I think it would be incredibly stupid of them to remove the money from your account if it is a mistake on their end and nothing that you've done knowingly or on purpose (such abusing something you know to be a bug).

However, I think it should still have a JIRA issue as if it is happening for other accounts then it's an L$ source that shouldn't exist.

Never did referrals - but perchance to you get the bonus again when they re-up?

This has been happening to me too. In the last couple of months, I have been payed for 5 people that joined and went premium in 2004. I figure it's a glitch and they'll take the money back eventually.

Ummm ... I'm asking this question because apparently LL has done something stupid. I do not place any restrictions on my belief in LL's stupidity.



My partner never downgraded her account to basic once she had become premium. There were periods when she didnt have any extra land tier then the 512 a premium acct comes with, but she has always been premium.

My main acct, who received the bonus, had actually cancelled at one point and re-activated her acct when she got over herself, but that was much more then a year ago now, almost 2.

No, I haven't filed a JIRA, but I did file a support ticket on it. I was filing one for another problem and just included the bonus problem.

oddly enough, im not even slightly surprised that ll are sending out bonuses 3 years after the fact.
im surprised theyre sending them at all.

There is one guy I referred 2 years ago and for a couple months, I got 3 referral bonuses from him, well over the time frame that I thought I would still be compensated for the referral. Maybe LL changed the rules and we are not aware of it? I reasoned that perhaps the more the individual participates in SL, LL shares the wealth? o.0
