Obviously, we could lose inventory items at most any time. I wonder if it's more likely you'll lose things if you crash after clearing your cache.
I cleared my cache today and rebooted. Inventory loaded at a slow speed, but normal for a reboot after inventory cleaning. It loaded completely. I then went shopping in a very laggy parcel and crashed.
When I rebooted, my inventory began loading from item #1 again (as it usually does the first time you boot after a cache-clearing), and it loaded at an excruciatingly slow pace. With about half of it loaded, it paused for a long time. I TPed to a less laggy sim, Brilliant. (TPing during inventory loading is probably a bad idea, but staying in a very laggy sim is, too.) My inventory then continued to load, but when it finished I had lost about 600 items.
I cleared my cache again and booted into Brilliant. My inventory loaded completely, regaining the 600 items.
From now on, I'm gonna play it safe to avoid crashing immediately after clearing the cache. Whenever I my clear it, I'll then boot into a low-lag sim, wait for my inventory to load, and then reboot.

You can type in single letters like A,E,I,O,U...one at a time... in the search bar of the inventory to make it load faster. It is a good idea to do this in a low lag area. I heard a Linden say (I believe in the Knowledge Base) that the total inventory count is often not accurate. The Linden went on to say this number is the basis for the claims that they are missing things from their inventory. While this is probably not entirely true (some things really do go missing or break in there), it is an interesting point.

Yep, I typed and deleted letters every now and then. When the loading paused, that often got it going again.

Clearing my cache I use to do regularly but it seems to cause more problems so now I am only going to do it if I must. I discovered typing a letter really doesn't always help at least for me. Sometimes it takes hours for things to appear. Example I made new textures file name regardless of how many times I searched for it vanished but it exist I got it on other prims, etc. No clue why but friend convinced me to not clear cache every day like I have been because it just makes things worse. And she was right.

The folder with all my vendors and sales-related stuff & backups poofed from my inventory last night. I doubt if any of that stuff will ever re-appear. Luckily I was able to plunder vendors in my store to recover most of my missing inventory.

What kind of problems is cache clearing causing you FD? Every time my GF clears her cache, she has to totally reinstall SL.

From: Chris Norse Every time my GF clears her cache, she has to totally reinstall SL. Chris, has she logged in on a different computer before clearing her cache? It would be interesting to know if she experiences the same problem on multiple machines. On a possibly-related note: One recurring problem I have is that I crash almost every time I empty the trash. Anyone else experience that?

From: Miles Beck One recurring problem I have is that I crash almost every time I empty the trash. Anyone else experience that? I used to crash when I played SL with unsupported hardware (emptying trash can was an example). It rarely does it now that I have an updated system. You may want to try deleting everything in the trash folder more often, so there is not as much stuff in there to delete at once.
