whenever I load a viewer today it will load things like huds but not any of the world.
everything where the room and my av should be is all black.
is there something wrong on my end or is SL down?

Which viewer -- a standard LL one, an RLV viewer, or some other -- also what version of that viewer?

For me, it appears to happen randomly... somtimes I get a black start-up scren.. somtimes I get the 'island view'. Never found an explanation, but I have a thought that RLV (which I had up and running for a while) could be part of the explanation.

A black startup screen vs a view of some place inworld is an issue with your current connect speed to the various hops needed to connect to the SL network.
The OP seems to be talking about after actually logging in, all HUDs show but everything else seems to stay black.

I'm not in world to check but what would happen if you'd somehow triggered a blindfold hud you'd been wearing and forgotten about?

I figured out what happened to mine.
I was loading near a wall and the camera just on the other side.
as for everyone else. no clue
