I had to buy a new laptop mine suddenly had died...is a VaIO Sony GGN FW11E with a ATI Mobility Radeon..everything is perfect in other applications, very fast.. but in SL i have a weird problem: if i look at any avatar-also mine- from a certain point of view i see it all transparent, only prims are clearly visible-To see the normal skin and shape i have to cam near , focusing with the mouse...
I have updated the video driver from ATI site, i have cleared cache .both of them( SL and browser), I am NOT using the new viewer..what else can i do?

are you using the 1.22? thats the one that seems most stable at the moment..
i would uninstall and even delete the folder then download that version and install it and see how that works for you..123 seems to do that texture glitch..

Search the forums for ATI. That might help you. Problems with ATI cards are very common.

There are some fixes but I cannot remember it just now, but it is here no the forum, I believe in the tech section.

Good luck, I hope you find the answer.
