I have recently banned several avatars from my venues for using bots to cheat during Club Events. It appears to be a group of 5 different avatars who tp in alts/bots to vote for one of them. They choose a different winner among them everytime. I have sat and watched avatars teleport in near the contest board, vote and leave.
I would like to share these names with other club owners and associates. I could not find where this is a voilation of the SL Community Standards. Does anyone have information that proves otherwise ?
Thanks in advance for your help and responses.

Thanks in advance for your help and responses. Yikes. A short time ago I was voting for a friend in a modelling contest. You could vote every day, for a couple weeks. The first time I went, after voting, I looked around the store and bought a couple things. After that though, I tp'd in every day, voted and left. Is that wrong somehow, to tp in, vote and leave? I"m just a little curious to know why that could be perceived as a bad thing, or is it that you perceived the 5 avs to be alts because they always came one after the other, or?? I know this doesn't answer your question, just curious.

HI Treasure , Most picture contests allow you to vote more than once. I was referring to a club event that lasts about 2 hours . I perceived them to be alts because I only saw them during voting and near the contest board. Some landed near the club entrance and voted from there. Most of them had the default Linden lab clothing and skin .They all leave after voting . The 5 avatars I mentioned were the MAIN accounts, who would actually enter in the contest . For instance, if you run a contest at a club where the people at the club can vote for each others costumes, I certainly consider it cheating if one contestant tp in people during the last minutes of the event so they can vote for them and tp off. ___ Edit: And I type slow

one way to slow it down is to have only people in the club vip allowed to vote.. make the vip tag an invite only..not sure what else you could do off hand.. just make it to where you don't do invites after an event has started and make a list of all who may want an invite and invite them after it is over.. it's not the best idea but may stop them if they are bots..who knows really lol

If I try out new clubs and need to be in the group to enter and vote on a contest, then I probably won't bother returning. I seem to recall coming across boards that only let the people in the contest vote? That might be a better option, but I guess that also has its draw backs. I don't really go to clubs that often these days, but when I do it's often because they had an event I wanted to dress up for, i love the challenge of putting together a costume.

hell, it doesn't have to bots even... friend a dozen or so newbies, drop a few freebies on them, enter a contest, spam them via IM to come vote for you. poof, instant voting brigade. eventually newbies get wise, and you have to collect a few more. seen it too often.
(and any idiot that spams me with come vote for me messages soon finds they are dropped from my friends list, if not muted)

I don't like the VIP thing either....but, another way that I've seen clubs handle this is only those who enter the contest, to vote. Now.....I suppose one could bring all their alts....and enter em all in said contest.....and then have them all vote for the main account holder. And I guess there are probably die-hards out there who will take advantage of ANY opportunity to gain free L's. So....this brings it back to the VIP idea.....in which case I can totally understand a club owners stipulation that only members can enter the contest. It's the wingnuts who pull the cheating with alts & bots stunts......that ruin it for the rest, and force the club owners to tighten up the rules. I'm not a big clubber anyway......but if I like a place and I like the contest theme.....then I'll join temporarily just to participate. No ig deal....it's pretty easy to just leave a group if ya want. I did it just recently to join a photo contest....and even tho the club is an adult sex/vampire place......it's actually a really great group of folks and I've had fun the last few times I went to an event. Belonging to the club doesn't necessarily mean I have to get nekkid and writhe around on the floor or wear my vampire fangs to fit in. But....I digress.....I would have to say, unless you can absolutely prove that these avatars are part of a cheating scam......it probably isn't a good idea to throw their names out there like a plague warning. Just ban them and if they whine.....explain why. Chances are you're correct in your assumption......but if you're wrong, banning them covers your a$$ but doesn't necessarily hurt any innocent parties.

It seems possible to design a contest board with some anti-bot/anti-cheating features. Maybe by keeping tracking of how long someone has been in the club. If someone TPs in 5 minutes before the vote, it doesn't count. You could have a setting to let the owner set their own threshold for how long someone needs to have been there before they become eligible to vote. Honestly, it sounds like a no brainer... maybe I should go make a contest board...

Thanks for the responses. You must be a member to vote in our contests . However our group is open enrollment - I personally think all Club Groups should be. These cheaters have taken time to make sure that their alts or "friends" as they called them are in our group . Thanks Milla, I dont plan on making it a Plague warning. But I would lilke to give people in my network a heads up . I dont think anyone can prove anyithing 100% , but I do have witnesses and conversations (which I cant paste to other clubs owners as its a voilation) Quite a few of our VIPS have noticed that these scammers are barely trying to be in costume, but yet win with over 50% of the votes . lol

Clubs often urge us to TP our friends in during contests. So if your friends include an alt or two, there would be a temptation to do 'invite' them!
I hasten to add that I've never done anything like that.

Let's see, you came early and have been scanned 12 times, so your vote counts 12 times, you bots have been here for 1 scan, 1 vote each.

The sadder thing is when a club event is going on and the friends crowd shows up, none tip the DJ, the host or the club. There's no law against it, of course, but it shows how low these people will go to make approx $3 or $4 US.

I only skimmed this thread, but I believe the best way to avoid this problem is to have a minimum amount of time the person has stay within range of the contest in order for their vote to count at the end. Or simply have it so that the only votes that count are the ones that have avatars still in range at the end, although this is unfair if someone's been by the contest the entire time and then needed to leave right before the end. I think the first way is the best

QFT My DJ friends know I run poor, but I'll script for em in a flat second, gratis. sometimes other skills pay off. always treat your providers well, with whatever you can offer. (me I generally donate winings from contests back to the source, or to people that need it if it's goods... I don't need a few bucks THAT bad)
