Newbie seller and my notecard can't be read by the buyer

I'm trying to sell a personalized item and, yes, I'm new at this. I want the buyer to receive a notecard that will be completed and returned to me so I can then personalize and deliver the item.

I created a prim to sell the contents. In its General Tab, I selected For Sale, included a price, and selected Contents. The notecard is in the prim's contents and its permissions are mod/transfer.

When someone pays, the customer receives a folder with the notecard inside. But when he attempts to open the notecard, he gets the message, "you are not allowed to view this note." What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!!

I believe you also need to have the copy permissions on to actually read it.

To make changes and such I am pretty sure it has to be on. I'm sure someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong =)

Sometimes, even when you created a notecard, you can't read it due to insufficient permissions. You may need to just re-rez a new copy.

You should make notecards no-mod or no-transfer. With mod/transfer, somebody can change the notecard and pass it along and you'll still show up as the creator. Some creators have been griefed this way.. :(

Do you have any advice on how to handle orders for personalized items? I've purchased two personalized items in the past, and both times I received a notecard in which I typed the necessary information and returned to the creator. To do this, the buyer obviously needs to modify the notecard and transfer it back to the creator. Any suggestions on a workaround?

That's not exactly the case I was talking about - I meant more like a general instuctions notecard that gets distributed with every sale..

For the case you mention in the quote above, I think the griefing potential is probably less since it's an exchange between two specific people instead of the seller and 'everybody'. If the seller was really worried about this, a scripted object that asks buyer questions and IMs the seller could probably be done. Or maybe a scripted object that sends the info to a web server, if the seller has one. Or even a scripted object that just asks the questions and remembers the answers - the buyer could just pass the object back to the seller once they had told it all the info...
