Ok.. this is driving me bonkers. Everytime I sign in and check the object count on my land, it is different. No, it's not stuff other people left on my land... MY object count keeps going up??? I signed on this morning.. I had 77 available.. I come back this afternoon, its telling me I have 64???? I have over 1800 objects on my land, so I can't really do the view thing, as EVERYTHING gets a while outline. Any idea what is causing this? Can other people put stuff on my land and it shows up as mine, even though it is not? I just don't get it....
Edit: just signed in and check... object count is showing 69 now???? omg...wth???

One way to immediately stop other people from using your prims is to remove permissions for OBJECT ENTRY and CREATE OBJECT.
If you use autoreturn, be sure everything is yours or your friends stuff is going back.

He said they were his objects. Nothing "owned by others?" These could be "ghost" prims; you would need to request a region restart from LL to get these cleared off.

If you have any temp-rez objects out. Like rezzing Butterflys or somethng else. I have 2 eagles that are temp-rez. They rezz for about 5 minutes, fly around then disppear and rerezz a short time later. And I've noticed the prim count fluctuate by the number of prims that each eagle takes. Just a thought

My count keeps going up and down and I think it's the acorns one of my squirrels litters around. I always thought temp objects didn't count toward your prim total. When I view the land with an alt it's also a different number than what I see. As long as there's a buffer, I'm happy.
If you don't allow object entry that just means the spaceship that's trying to fly overhead will crash on your neighbor's property instead of yours. I sometimes find them near the border of my land and politely return them to the poor soul who ended up who knows where. -- KC

Didn't even think of the squirrels... or the 2 nests of temp-rezz birds either. I never noticed it affected my prim count so much though. Anyways, I requested the restart as Oryx suggested. To my amazement, I actually have 80 prims left, counting the squirrels and the birdies, and no crazy count fluctuations. Woohoo!!!

From: KC Despres Snip... I always thought temp objects didn't count toward your prim total. ...Snip They don't and they do. Took me awhile to figure it out. When they are rezzed they do count, but only for the lenght of time that they are rezzed. If it is a display that is rezzed only when someone approaches or clicks on a button, then they won't count for the time that no one is near enought or doesn't click the button to activate the display. Some merchants use this type of display in their stores. The other kind of temp rezzer that is used to be able to save on prim rapidly rez and derez the object. It takes advantage of the time gap that it takes the system to register the object so it doesn't get recorded as a used prim, but it appears to the eye that it is always there. Frequently, this kind of temp-rez object will seem to flicker. I think that I have that right. If I don't I'm sure that one of the more knowledgable forum denizens will correct me.

I just went through some diagnostics on this in a nearly-full sim.
Temp-on-rez items like butterflies, fireflies, nuts dropped by squirrels... they are cute, but for all intents and purposes, those prims DO count.
Temp-on-rez was designed so things that had to exist in-world for a short time, like bullets or the dropped nuts those squirrels leave behind, can vanish after a minute and not litter the sim. They are not designed or intended for something that gets rezzed over and over again to replace a fixed structure.
All temp-rezzed prims still count toward the total prim count for the sim. That 15,000 prim max doesn't care if the prims are temp or not. I have seen 'can't create object because the server is full' errors that were caused *solely* by a number of temp rezzers that happened to rez items at the same moment.
The temp rezzed prims do NOT get counted towards the total allocation for a 'parcel full' error on your land. But they DO count when you list how many prims each person has on the parcel. For example, with several temp-rezzers in use, my own parcel prim count actually exceeeded the parcel limit, while 4 of my household members has an additional 300 prims on the parcel. So we were in effect borrowing 350 or so prims from the max available for the others in our sim. (Having found this out, I am eliminating most of the temp-rezzers on my land. I'll only be keeping one firefly generator.)
Some temp-rezzers will replace a prim structure before the previously rezzed temp copy vanishes. For example, I bought a lovely Shinto Shrime. It would be 127 prims if rezzed normally. But it counted as one prim on my parcel, because the rest was all temp-on-rez. HOWEVER... It still counted as at least 127 prims for the sim total allocation. And once a minute, as the old copy was about to de-rez and the new one rezzed, it counted as 253 prims! (127 + 127, -1 for the base that didn't ever change) So that one item accounted for a fluctuation in sim prim count of 126 prims, once a minute.
